  • SMBFocus - Australia's first SMB IT Reseller Conference is launched

It's been a long time between posts for me on this blog. I've been going to do something for quite some time, but time has escaped me. I've been working on a project that has been a concept I've carried now for 3 years or so and that is Australias first conference focused on the needs of the SMB IT reseller. Australia has never had an event like this and it's about time we did. Anyway - I've launched the conference website this week and also opened for registrations too. www

  • Media Center PC - It's ALIVE!!!

Yes - that's right - after a few months now, I've finally gotten more done with my media center PC and the room itself. I went for an Enspire Digital AVX-700 Media PC for the core of the system, this has an AMD Athlon 64 X2 440+ Dual Core CPU, with 2 x 320GB hard drives, FusionHDTV DVB-T Dual digital tuner, and a 128MB GeForce 6600GT video card. I've put that with a Logitech Z-5450 5.1 channel speaker system - these are cool as they have wireless rear speakers. The video output is via a DVI to the

  • SBS2003 R2 SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 Downgrade Rights

SBS 2003 R2 is in beta now and the Premium Edition contains SQL 2005 Workgroup Edition which is nice. It will give forward looking customers the chance to get all the great features of SQL 2005... that is once their application vendor supports it. What do they do in the meantime if they need SQL 2000 then? Well - based on the information on the MS website, they can do one of two things... Option 1 http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsServer2003/sbs/evaluation/faq/sql2005.mspx suggests that they downgrade

  • Patching - needs to be even simpler please Microsoft

Today we had an interesting issue on a client site - the client runs SBS 2003 - they sent out an email blast to 60 of THEIR customers but they mistakenly put everyone in the cc line instead of the bcc line. What then happened was a deluge of emails that bounced back to them and continues even now. Our IT team immediately checked out our clients SBS server and could not see a problem, until we realised that the mail was coming from one of their customers servers. We investigated and the based ont

  • Cookies and Support People

I've got a gripe with support people. How many times have you been investigating a problem and either told someone to delete there IE cookies or been told to do that yourself? I find this extremely frustrating as a user that the support people do not know WHICH cookies are related to their particular site. Surely if I am having a problem with a site www.site1.com then I should be able to delete all the cookies related to just that site - surely the site developers know which cookies they rely on

  • Merry Christmas to all and a reflection on how I got into the community...

Christmas is a time that you catch up with old friends, spend time with family and the like. I class myself as fortunate to have so many friends both here at home and around the world in the virtual community. I've got friends from all kinds of different backgrounds. The one thing in common with them all is that I've met so many of them via the online communities. Back in 1995 I first got into online communities when I was installing Exchange v4.0 for the first time. I found a mailing list focused
