HP Power Assistant causes Drop Outs

Published Tue, Jan 10 2012 13:28 | Thomas K.H. Bittner

If you using a HP device with HP Power Assistant installed, you can encounter drop outs when playback multimedia files. Even you have the most recent drivers installed for any relevant adapter and turn on highest performance settings on the device.

If you uninstall this software, usually the issue is fixed.

Pay attention when using HP Support Assistant, it will recommend to install and update HP Power Assistant features again.

I can confirm this for my new HP 4530s: CPU stalled regularly (every 30 seconds) for about 70 ms. Isolated the problem with the help of a neat little tool called "DPC Latency Checker".

I can confirm the problem on HP ProBook 6560b, too.

(Win7 64bit)

I used Process Monitor to detect the problem.

HP support confirmed the problem.
