I am IT for a small business and I can't count the number of times that I've seen personal emails about job interviews or other work sent to their work email account. I usually try to pretend I didn't see that they were sending resumes out using their current employment's email address but it really bugs the crap out of me.

I'll be honest when I say this that I'm really not enjoying what I'm doing here any more and I'm looking to find other employment. I'm an hourly employee and I can honestly make up hours if I wanted to but I value the work I do over the money I make. If it's not a work related issue, I don't charge for it. Others in this office make a salary so every second they're here is every second they're getting PAID to work. Them sending resumes or looking for other jobs while they're here is no different than me doing it for x hours and BILLING my company for it and that's just something I'll NEVER do.

Luckily I don't run this business or I'd filter emails for certain keywords like Resume, Dice.com, Monster.com or other places. If I saw a hint of someone looking I'd say to them "So you're looking for other employment on our time? That says to me that you don't really value the work you're doing here. If this place sucks, tell me, but don't try to go behind my back and CHARGE ME for it. Get the hell out of here. You're fired (in my best Donald Trump accent)." We'd probably have no employees by the end of the day though because that kind of stuff has been widespread and attempted by almost everyone here at some point in time. Truly sad.

So yes, if it weren't true it'd be funny as hell but since it apparently defines the American workforce perfectly it's very disturbing at best.
