I've gotten dirty looks at those box stores in the past when I've rescued folks from the clueless employees...mind you I don't interrupt but when the rep leaves for a moment and the person asks me a question directly (I guess I just look like I'll know) I'll give an answer and it's usually not the one that makes the sales person the most commission...but then again my advice isn't commission based - it's based on my experience :)

Bravo. The mark of those that truly know something are the ones who say "I don't know". They know that they cannot know everything and don't try to pretend.

I envision a day when everyone customer in the store will drop what they are doing, look the employee in the face while they're still explaining something the know nothing about, and say simultaneously "that's BS". I don't think it will happen, because honestly I don't think enough people really know that it's completely BS. When I walk through Best Buy and listen to the stuff spewing out of their mouths, I invariably want to jump in and break up the conversation - like a ref calling a fight. But I don't. Sometimes I actually hear people say, "well, I've got a brother-in-law that's really good with computers..." and then the salesperson gets all annoyed because he knows he won't be able to convince them to use the Geek Squad. I do enjoy that.
