Delphi MiFi

Well, I called the XM folks and tried to get some info out of them.  Looks like the MyFi is going to be out at the beginning of next month.  The guy wasn't going to tell me when b/c that's still hush hush but I got the strong impression that it'll be out in the first week.  He mentioned that if you pre-order it it'll arrive before it hits the stores (about a week earlier).

The coolest thing about this gadget is that it has Tivo like features - 5 hours of content on it.  You don't need to hook it to the internet or anything but you can pause and replay which is killer.  No more coming in in the middle of a song you really wanted to hear... It's a little pricey but if its half as cool as it looks, it'll be well worth it.

So does this work exactly like a walkman? Or do you have to stand outside with satellite view and an antenna hanging on your neck to receive anything on it?

Yep, you can use it like a walkman. Back when I was in Boston a while ago, we got clear XM reception the whole way under the tunnel which went under the bay. They are really powerful.

I look like a dork enough as it is - hanging an antenna around my neck would make me Super Dork - and I'd have to wear a D on my chest ;-)

I found out what I had always suspected about mifi. You need to stand outdoors to get live reception - else you can record 5 hours like tivo. Plus it's big like a cassette walkman.

That could be touted as "Content that never grows old like your mp3 player" - but I have always discovered something good to hear in my iPOD - and it's smaller - plus I can podcast.

Mifi - until later - :)

I don't like this thing. Reception is bad unless you want to actually wear an antenna ala Al Franken in his SNL days.

It's cool you can record but it's a pain and it's like recording a radio.

Tried to sell it to a buddy and he passed. Lowering my price to a case of beer. Buying an IPOD ASAP.

How much do you want for it?
