Fact Checking Charles M Carroll
I write this with pause, not for fear of getting kicked out of the MVP program but because it's a waste of time. A complete Waste of Time. Exhibit A. Charles accuses me of posting fake comments on my blog and all sorts of other insane stuff. He goes on and on about how I could just approve or reject comments and so much more and it's amazing how he can be wrong about so many things in such a short amount of space.
To begin with, someone is trying to provoke a fight between me and Charles. He knows this and I know this. We've talked about it more than once. Out of the blue, he decided to take the bait and proceeded to flame me. Someone is laughing right now b/c they got exactly what they wanted. The fact there were many comments on my blog puporting to be his but weren't is not any indication that I approved of such things or that I approved the comments. I didn't. How many times have I mentioned that I don't moderate comments? I don't have time to even if I wanted to. When I caught stuff, I dealt with it. All along, Charles and I have been in contact when questions came up and things were civil. Now, out of the blue, he decided not to contact me and just go on the attack. Had he mentioned it to me, i would have found time to edit the comments or delete them, whichever he preferred, just like I did every other time this happened. He has no reason to think otherwise and we have some mutual friends that certainly can vouch for the fact that I would do whatever I could to help Charles here.
Let's set a few things straight...
Falacy #1: "The MVP program has a few bad eggs that ruin the reputation of the whole program. Bill Ryan came so close to losing his MVP status over publicly attacking me and others in his blogs he does so anonymously now to reduce his risk.And now he teams up with Ryan Olshan tow rite and approve fake comments from me with insults to Suzy, her family and memory, my mother, Doug Nelson, etc."
The MVP program doesn't kick people out. It's an award for prior accomplishment. I guess if you did something really awful they might consider taking it away, but I don't know of a single case of this happening. Charles Carroll and Doug Nelson made up some huge lies and distortions and failed to report a few pertinent facts to Microsoft when they went crying to MS because they didn't like the fact I posted Charles' own words publicly. Things got out of hand on the comments b/c Charles has left a strong impression on many people in the past. Charles has mentioned repeatedly that he gets people in the MVP program and can get them kicked out. Neither is the case. If you read through his post, you'll note that he can't site a single comment that's mine or that he has any reason to believe was written by me. On the contrary, he's ripping in to me for supposedly approving fake comments by others. If anyone is interested, I'll be glad to show you the emails between me and Charles and me and a few others that clearly shows that i was concerned about this whole issue and was doing what I could to address it.
Falacy #2: "Basically Ryan Olshan and Bill Ryan post fake comments pretending to be me and says foul, crude things. Bill Ryan who knows I never post at his blog commenting yet approves the comments and then claims he “can’t stop this amateur hacker” when in reality he just needs to reject rather than approve the comments, and delete the ones he approved in the past before being notified by multiple people I never comment on his blog and certainly don’t write the kind of things he has approved anywhere on the web."
Comment moderation is NOT TURNED ON AND HAS NEVER BEEN ENABLED ON MY BLOG. PERIOD. I don't approve anything. I can reject things after the fact but as Charles just has his facts wrong here

I unquestionably have someone posting on my blog pretending to be Charles Carroll and others. Charles contacted me indicating that he wasn't the author. I had suspected this previously and was in contact with a mutual acquaintance regarding it - I was telling Charles he had a problem. I told him that I also received emails which knew stuff that could only be known if someone breached his account. Here's the email I sent to his friend:
"Again, I hate to keep bugging you with this childish crap. I got another deluge of comments, from Charles, Doug, Peter, Jeffrey and some Muhammad dude. IP Addresses are Fairfax VA, Baltimore MD, Plano Tx, Eden's Prarie MN and Foster City, CA. When I checked the web server logs though, the IPs are different and are from a proxy server in China. I've been deleting them as I find them, but get this. I put some filters on my comments. So the person is posting comments, the same one, repeating it each time but changing the name at each attempt. I can tell this b/c when I look at the spam filter, I see a series of comments, all of which are the same exact text for any given series but havae the name change. So they are posting with Charles Carroll, charles M Carroll, Charles Mark Carroll then they got through with Charles M. Carroll. Then they tried Charles Douche Carroll, Charles "Douche" Carroll, Charles [Douche] Carroll, [Charles] [Mark] [Carroll] and the last one got through. I can't be positive but it seems like a pretty sure bet that they realize there's a filter and trying to beat it, b/c in each case, whenever they get on to actually get through, that's the last I see of that comment. I wish I could use Regex's to filter things, but I only have access through the community server panel as it's not my site. They however have stopped using your name if that's any consolation. They did try to get through with a few different combinations for Peter and Doug but stopped after 5 attempts. I didn't have a filter for Jeff or Muhammad b/c I know Jeff and have no earthly idea who Muhammad is"
In the past, each time I found a comment, I'd mark it as such. I've implored the impersonator to stop. I've tagged each comment so people could see they were fakes. The problem is, I have a full time job. I have enough trouble keeping my blog up to date without having to worry about comments. All of my Spam and the like is wayyyy backed up b/c I just don't have time to handle this stuff. I say this respectfully but Charles tends to have long stints of unemployment and has a lot more free time than I do, and honestly, my blog just doesn't make the top 50 lists of important things in my life. Cleaning up comments on it ranks even lower. But please Look for yourselves!
From Me to the Impersonator:
Dear Mr Charles M Carroll Impersonator. You win ok, I give up. Seriously, I officially am crying "UNCLE", "NO MAS" you win. I already have very little time to blog or do anything other than work and keeping my blog clear of SPAM is wayyyy too much of a pain in the butt. So why add to my misery? What did I ever do to you? I've already blown up at just about everyone that I suspect is doing this, told the InlineASP folks to take a hike and leave my name out of the whole goddamned mess and am doing everything I can to just stay the hell out of this mess. If you're trying to get me to fight with Charles it isn't going to happen. If you're trying to make Charles look bad, it's backfiring. If your intent is none of the above and you just have some overwhelming desire to be a pain in my ass, please accept my apology and just leave me alone.
Here's what I did with the comments:
You look so hot on all floors with those ****in your ****. Will you come to my spacious 5 bedroom house in Halethorpe, MD and play the part of Ronnie? Please?
---This post is not from Charles Mark Carroll. Instead it's from an impostor who spends a LOT of time on my site posting as Charles
To accuse me of just blowing this off is ridiculous. I know Charles reads the comments so clearly he's seen these. But you don't see word 1 of this in his post. So his sonly beef is that I'm not as quick about editing these things as he'd like me to be.
I can post a lot of documentation PROVING my point here. Proving that I've been trying to help the poor guy. Proving that I'm not blowing this stuff off. I've edited several comments tagging them with information that someone is pretending to be Charles. I've contacted a friend of his several times to try to help the guy out.
Charles has no bearing on the MVP program. Those comments he's complaining about have nothing to do with the MVP program. He's threatened to get me kicked out several times and nothing has ever come of it. He's seriously attacking me b/c I don't edit my freaking blog comments fast enough. Blogging is just too low priority and comment editing - Please.
Hopefully Charles will come to his senses and take down the post. If not, well, Starting with his first email, I'm going to be forced to prove where he's lying - and that's just about everything. As angry as I was this morning, I'm willing to chalk this up to a misunderstanding and let bygones be bygones. it's worked well in the past and it will work again going forward. But running completely inaccurate attack pieces on me and the MVP program and pointing fingers without any supporting facts is not the way to proceed.
Mr Nelson - I hear crickets - do you think Charles latest attack piece which is absolutely incorrect and dishonest, is it appropriate for a community site?
