Tracking Wikipedia 'edits'

Published Thu, Aug 16 2007 18:58 | William

If you use Wikipedia much, you have no doubt come across a page that has been vandalized.  While vandalism is in the eye of the beholder to some extent, there are clear rules there and I've seen many posts that clearly violate the rules - no question about it.

A graduate student named  Virgil Griffith wrote the Wikiedia Edit ScannerA> which tracks edits and compares them to the IP Addresses.  Before it's over I'm sure a whole bunch of people are going to have egg on their faces, but for now, looks like New York Times owns the hall of shame for now . This is a cool project and looks like Mr Griffith is on track to make a heck of a career for himself before he even leaves school.
