A Sharepoint and Silverlight extravaganza? Dude who replaced my friend Bill with this guy who likes lightweight faggoty development ***? Whoever you are I'm going to kick your ass until you tell me what you did with Bill.

Sharepoint and Silverlight are faggoty?

Allow me to clarify. First I do not use the word faggoty in regards to anything involving the gay community. I use it simply as an adjective synonymous with other adjectives like lame, weak, and useless. It could also be thought of as encompassing the same thoughts that are invoked by the phrase, "Worthless MSFT technology flavor of the week used to churn developers and users alike". Here are some examples to help clarify my personal position on the matter:

In depth code to control float point behavior == not faggoty

Computational Geometry Algorithms coding == not faggoty

Coding 3d rendering engines == not faggoty

Embedded systems Assembler and C coding == not faggoty

Device Driver coding == not faggoty

Firmware coding for networking components (routers etc) == not faggoty

Writing video or graphics display systems IE (writing your own Real Player from scratch) == not faggoty

Writing a new CAD or GIS system IE (you wrote FastCAD in pure Assembler *see note) == not faggoty

Working on the Windows Shell team == not faggoty

Just about anything Larry Osterman has done professionally == not faggoty

Working on the core libraries for any major CAD or GIS system == not faggoty

Coding precision measurement systems for things like super conductors == not faggoty

Coding the firmware and system software for diagnostic equipment like MRI's == not faggoty

Coding Flir style thermal imaging systems or lidar systems == not faggoty

Coding stability control systems for vehicles == not faggoty

Coding systems that control, calculate, and connect fiber optic systems == not faggoty

Coding systems that control, calculate, and connect RF and or microwave systems == not faggoty

Examples on the opposite end of the spectrum:

Coding bank customer UI software == faggoty

Coding hospital patient tracking software == faggoty

Just about anything involving coding business logic in .Net == faggoty

Coding against MSFT Access databases == faggoty

Using MSFT flavor of the week, developer churning, wrappers on the same core libraries == faggoty

MSFT VC++ pre visual studio 2005 == faggoty

writing just about anything in Java other than J2ME code == faggoty

Linux zealots == faggoty

Mac users trying to justify their beloved Mac's fuzzy fonts == faggoty

Almost all web development (although there are some notable exceptions) == faggoty

Google and Yahoo aiding the Chinese government in much the same way IBM did the Germans during WWII == faggoty

MSFT MapPoint == faggoty

The lists of course could go on for days but I will stop there for the sake of brevity. I have this friend name Bill who was right on the cusp of doing some really cool stuff with the Windows CE framework and other cool things as well and suddenly he was kidnapped and replaced by a guy who does Asp.Net code and talks about things involving MSFT flavor of the week business logic technology. I want to know what they did with the old Bill and if he is still blogging from solitary confinement or if the terrorists really have won.

*Note if the creator of FastCAD **( Mike Riddle ) ever reads this, your code is cool but your UI needs a lot of work. Mad props for doing the first seven version or so all in pure Assembler.

**Mike Riddle was the original architect of AutoCAD for the then garage based AutoDesk corporation owned by John Walker. You can find some mention of him here in the History of how AutoDesk had pains bringing AutoCAD onto the 8086 architecture: www.fourmilab.ch/.../section2_10_8.html
