Web Services + Computer * x = Justice for spammers

I was hesitant to post this, but I've frigging had it.  A few months back I started using a Skin that didn't have the CAPTCHA b/c I got so many complaints about it.  All in all, things have been pretty good w/ respect to blog spam.  However in the past few days, the sh1t has hit the fan.  I remember a few weeks ago about how someone brutally murdered some Russian Spam Master and thought that while I agreed with it in principal, it was a bit much.  However I've reconsidered.  I've gotten a almost 200 spam posts this week and I'm getting pissed off.  Particularly b/c I don't blog at work and at home I only have dial up at the moment (living out in the country has some serious drawbacks).  Anyway, the spammers are out of the Netherlands and Uruguay.  So here's the concept.  Create  web service that returns a list of IP Addresses for the SOB's.  Then have a client program that can be downloaded which just blasts the things.  With each IP Address, have a list of times to coordinate the flood.  If they can hide behind the fact that they live in other countries and can't be prosecuted, well what's good for the goose is good for the gander.  Anyway, it would be cool b/c we could have a joint list of IP Addresses, and in the spirit of SETI, we could get a bunch of people and coordinate the hit.  Then ideally, we could also use the computing labs at nearby colleges, go late night and grab about 10 machines and just let stuff rip.  Probably not feasible from most people's work computers, but colleges, coffeshops, and anywhere else would probably work.

Yes, I'm serious about this. Anyone interested in helping out the cause, please drop me a line and I'll give you more of the details.

Isn't this what Lycos did with their screensaver recently? I think they were targetting known spammers as well...

In any case, my server is at your disposal for hosting this public list. I'd be useless with the client-side development, but I can make a PHP script do just about everything but make me toast (coffee we've got down).

Now, just to play the other side... What if these spammers have compromised a system somewhere and are using it to distribute this crap? Do we assume that the owner of the server is guilty by association (or stupidity) and that this will at least get them to notice the problem?

I agree with Chris Meller - most spam is sent from zombie computers(compromised home computers that have been taken over by malware that are then sold to spammers which are then set up as email bots).

Good idea Bill - to spam the spammers - but it's not that easy....
