HATE MAIL: Just had to post this one

Google must have reindexed my site b/c comments are going through the roof.  Anyway, I have nothing but respect for the US Military so I'm hesitant to post this - but there are some strong reasons to believe the guy really isn't a US Soldier anyway.  A while back I posted a link mockingly asking if Gold Tooth Caps would hinder one's chances of getting hired....

Here's one of the latest responses:

re: Survey - Are Gold Tooth Caps Unprofessional?

Its amazing the steretypes people place on each other. I am a Soldier in the U.S. Army and in my line of work w donr have time to worry about what paople look like in the outside but if you can do you job when its time to knock down doors. I personally have sever people who out rank me with gold teeth ad it never crossed my mine as far as work goes because gold teeth or not when we're getting shot at does it really matter.

Is it quite a surprise that many people, with ranks higher than his, have gold teeth?

Yah, maybe General Idi Amin or some clown like that, but being that I work with the military all the time, I think I'd have seen an officer with gold teeth at some point - and it ain't happened yet.

El Maliko - your pops was an officer in the Indian armed services right? I don't guess the Gold Teeth Chic ever rubbed off on him did it? Maybe at the next code camp we can each get three M-V-P gold teeth each and sport those bad boys around.

I never saw anyone above an E-5 with gold teeth in the Marines when I was in. I never saw a single officer with any either. The gold teeth thing is an urban trash issue. If you can't speak proper english, can't spell for sh!t, and have the G2 of a Llama then gold teeth are probably acceptable. These people wonder why they can't get out of the gutter? I have a clue for them it's not the people above them on the financial ladder holding them down. They have no one to blame but themselves. Just like Cosby said in that interview a while back.

Andy - You speak the truth, Cosby hit the nail on the head.

Andy-Urban trash? You sound like an African American that is feed up with how low-class and ignorant a large majority of our people are. So, I can excuse you becasue I can relate to that and what Cosby said. My name is Ebony and I was told that my name, meaning "black" would hold me back. But guess what, I didn't name myself. Most people know this. And I have an open face gold crown on my tooth next to my right front tooth. And I am a successful real-estate broker and I worked in Health Care Administration a total of 7 consecutive years. I got my gold teeth as a gift from my parents (mom pharmacist, dad, entreprenuer, owns a total of 72 rental properities and 5 successful atuo mechanic shops) when I was 15 years old and I am now 28. My tooth gives mystery about me. I like the fact that people think I am inferior to them because of a small peice of mouth jewelry. They also expect me to be an air head because I have eye catching above average natural looks. Sterotypes. I guess you steal, beat your women, and is a dead beat dad because you are African American. Sweetie, its called cultural differences/diversity i.e. dreds, locs, and soul food. Free your mind and stop being a snob. Look up SNOB and you seem to be one. News Flash, you are why some whites feel they are the superior race and if you are in the top social class you must be white. Oh, and I worked with a successful G/I physcian that had a whole Gold front tooth. Freaked me out too but he is well regarded and respected.

Ebony - there's no doubt that substance matters more than appearance. Regarding your name, have you happened to read "Freakonics"? It's been in the press a lot lately and it's amazing how much people in the media totally twist what the book actually said to try to paint it as racist. They actually go out of there way to document that the whole thing about 'Black' and 'White' names really has little to do with getting ahead (or falling behind) in life. Most of the more ecclectic names correlate a lot higher to social status of the parents at the time the child was born than anything else. And even weirder, prior to 1970- so called Black and White names were virtually indistinguishable. ANyway, regarding teeth. The thing isn't by any means a 'Black' or 'White' thing. I think it's much like tatoos or piercings. It depends on the individual in large part. However most people like seeing bright white and straight teeth (this has nothing to do with race obviously). Bright teeth are a sign of healthy teeth and anything that obscures that will probably be regarded negatively.

The main thing though is the substance of people - looks, both how we were born and how we dress ourselves, matters little comparitively.
