Beta 2 Hell

Published Thu, Jun 9 2005 20:58 | William
Ok, God decided to prove he's got a great sense of humor.  He let me get the Beta 2 bits installed.  But, after VS Starts up, I see the splash screen, and it just goes away.  Just disappears.  Nothing in the event log, nothing.  Now, this happened on two different VPC images  and a totally different box.  What gives?

Must be the SC version <bg>

Seriously, did you patch the OS first ? that's the only issue I've had with Beta 2. I have it instaleld, different flavours, on a couple of VPC's.

Oh, and now that there is a Beta 2 go live licence, it's time to actually have *real* fun with the bits. As such swap hard drives and run real not virtual PC. No matter waht I throw at VPC it's still kind of unresponsive at tiems, and makes VS look like it's a lto slower than what it really is. So my advice is if you are going to try again, do a clean XP or 2003 hard drive (NOT partition) and run it from there. It's not that you can't use VPC, jsut VPC lessons the "fun" ;)

Make sure it's a seperate hard drive. I haven't seen the issue myself, but I have had folk form MS tell me that with 2003 beta there was a problem where it would stuff up VS on other partitions. I don't see how it could unless it looked for C: or iterated through the drives or something.. but hey anythign's posible, and there's no way I'll let beta stuff mess with my the partitions that really do matter. Hard drives are way to cheap to allow that :)

Bill - thanks for the tip but yep, I've tried it on XP SP2 with all the updates, and same with 2k3 - I'm trying it on Longhorn now - hopefully I can get some traction finally.
