Loved by Lawyers and DHS Agents alike!
I liked Forest Gump, but I dislike most other "popular" movies and can't get enough of the cult movies...Evil Dead, Army of Darkness, Refer Madness, Metropolis, Bubba Ho-Tep, etc.
Forrest Gump would have been ok if I didn't hear 1000000 times beforehand that it was the best movie ever. I would have hated as Good as it gets not matter what. That Tom Cruise movie with Show me the money - Uhhhhh. I mean, a lot of them wouldn't be so bad if people didn't get all cheesy about it. I saw Titanic a year after it came out so I was expecting a lot. Jackie Brown came out the same week so I saw it and loved it. Steve Joubert from http://www.aspsoft.com/team/steve_joubert.html was rappign with me about Cult Flicks - he said his coworker (and dude I'm coauthoring a book with , Ambrose Little) is like the Cult Flick god. Repo Man - Awesome Liquid Sky - Awesome 12 Monkeys Awesome Resevior Dogs- Awesome 4 Rooms - Awesome Each of the ones you've mentioned kicks ass but I haven't seen bubba hotep - sounds like something I need to pick up? So many I could go on and on. Then there's crap like Philiadelphia that everyone goes gaga over. Yuck. BTW, you turned me on to Maddox and his movie reviews are always dead on. I loved his take of IRobot which could have been cool -but Geeeeezus the commercialism...
believe it or not, i happen to be a HUGE film buff. i'm also about 100 times more brutal on movies than i am on software developers. i've always toyed with the idea of posting the occasional review or blurb about films i think are important, or should be more widely known...
Phil - don't tease me like that b/c I think that would rock. Maybe we can get together and do a Mystery Science 2000 tyep thing ?
Yeah, I can see why you would hate Forest Gump then....and yeah, I, Robot could have been a good movie if it wasn't for such blatant commercialism. I own all those movies you mentioned except for 4 Rooms, I'll have to check that out! Yeah, Bubba Ho-Tep is a wicked movie, Bruce Campbell (cult movie god) play's Elvis in the movie, and in the movie Elvis never died, he just went into hiding and he's now old and in a old age home fighting an Egyptian mummy... http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0281686/ 12 Monkeys is sweet too...how about Brazil? it's like a whacked out version of 1984.
causticPhil - "believe it or not, i happen to be a HUGE film buff. i'm also about 100 times more brutal on movies than i am on software developers." Is that possible? ;) And if so I would advise against going to see Revenge of the Sith....
Skicow - does the sIth movie suck? I've been hating SW since Jar Jar caem out - I loved it too much as a kid for Jar Jar to be in there... I didn't hate the movie because of it, but it was a disappointment. Then Jar Jar was in the another movie (I forget the names) but when he was the UN embassador or whatever, that was so lame. They should have killed his a55 to make it up to all the original star wars fans. I've heard a lot of bad stuff about this one, like Speilberg started crying in it... Ugh.
Sith was better than Ep 1 and 2 but it still pales in comparison to Ep. 4-6. Now, I'm sure that some of that is just nostalgia talking but I don't think that it's the whole reason why I don't like Ep 1-3 much... Don't get me wrong, Sith was a good movie, but it just wasn't Star Wars or Empire good. I got disenfranchised with the Star Wars saga in Return of the Jedi when they had those freakin' Ewok's... *puke*
I wrote on Friday that I would unplug this weekend. Try as I might, I only found myself unplugged...
