Design Simplicity

My friend Jason just sent me this link on simplicity vs complexity in designs.   I'm sure every one of us has over engineered something in our time or scoffed at a simplistic design that turned out to actualy be pretty solid. How many times have we all done stuff like used XML to store data where a .csv file would have done the job every bit as well and probably quicker.  To be sure, I'm not knocking complexity - some  things are by requirement going to be complex.  But I think that often we do get kinda tunnel vision (particularly when working on complex items) and think that everything has to be pretty complex to be good.  Anyway, it's interesting food for thought.
