Help With a Partioning Problem
I really should already know how to handle this problem, but I'm at wits end and am seeking assistance. I have a P4 with an 80 Gig hard drive. Originally, my friend installed the hard drive for me and made three partitions on it so there's a C:\ drive, an E:\ drive and an F:\ drive. I have Windows 2000 Advanced Server installed on the C:\ drive. I used this exclusively for a few months and have four programs on it that I really need/want [ http://www.deklarit.com/hdefault.aspx, Macromedia Flash MX, Visio and Project sever]. All of them are legal and licensed but I have one problem with the Flash MX because I originally installed it direclty from the Macromedia site and I don't have the install file or the registration number anymore. I recieved it directly from them and it's a legit copy. As far as Visio goes, I've already registered it and activated it and although I could reinstall Visio again, going through the activation isn't something I particularly relish. Suffice to say though that if you find it in your heart to help me figure this out, you won't be facilitating piracy of any kind. Anyway, I have VS 2003 sitting on the 2000 Partition as well as a few other programs that I use a lot. Shortly afterward, my friend Adam (the guy that installed my hard drve and built the partitions in th first place installed Windows 2003 Server at his house and set up a Streaming media server. I wanted to do the same thing so he came over and installed 2k3 server and set up my Streaming Media Sever. On that partition (E:) I have VS 2003, the newest build of Whidbey, Biztalk and enough other stuff that if I tried to reinstall it all, it'd take me the good part of a month to pull off. I originally had Longhorn set up on the F:\ drive but I removed it. On the F partition, I have a Virtual Machine running Windows XP tablet PC edition with Whidbey and Yukon on it, as well as Biztalk. I originally had Longhorn on there but it was an alpha release and I was having a lot of trouble with it.
Here's essentially what I need to do. Since I no longer need the XP Tablet Virtual Machine, I can get rid of everything there and clear up a bunch of room on the F: drive. Ideally I want to reinstall Longhorn there. Due to the memory consupmtion of Longhorn, I don't really want to run it under VM although I know I probably should. But the bigger problem is that I don't really need to 2k Advanced server partition anymore. I saved off the .pst files and all the other files that I need. however I don't want to lose my copy of Flash MX or Deklarit. I flip back and foth between the partitions frequently when i need to use Flash, Delarit or Visio. I don't think I have any real problem with Visio and reactivating it although I heard i may have to call Microsoft up and get another key. My real problem is with Flash MX. I want to move it over to the Win2k3 partition so that I have it and VS 2003 and Whidbey all running on the same OS. Is there any way I can ghost that drive or something similar, or build aa VM image of the drive as it is now. Essentially, is there any easy way for me to take one or more of the programs and run them either under VM or load them onto Win2k3. The reason I ask is that although I have the proof of the purchase and all for Flash, Kim had a similar experience at work where someone had misplaced the license key and even though the company had proof of purchase, Macromedia told them that if they lost the key, they would have to buy another copy. Fortunately they found it. I've torn my place apart trying to find that key for Flash and I either misplaced it when I moved or can't find it for the life of me. I really want to start doing Flash development again but since I have ISA and so much other crap running on my 2k3 partion, flipping back and forth is a major pain in the butt. The Girlfriend is also starting to show some amazing skills with Flash and if I want to put her to work building cool Flash stuff for me, it'll be a lot easier if I don't have to take down my server and reboot under a different OS each time she wants to use it.
I know I'll probably be the subject of major ridicule and might even make the Daily WTF over this, but I'm looking for some easy solution to the problem and will be eternally grateful if anyone has any ideas that cn help me get everything moved over to the 2k3 environment.
