RealtyWorld and Whorish IP Claims

Published Fri, Mar 25 2005 17:50 | William

I came across a real outrage earlier today.  Someone was contacted by Realty World   because they used    this image from Microsoft Publisher 97 in a mailing.  So they got the typical Cease and Desist BS.  The funny part is that the two globes really don't look much alike and this CRAP HOLE company who should be embarrased for pulling this sort of crap.  It looks just like 15 million other globes for crying out loud.  Realty World Sucks!  Their stupid logo sucks and they suck for trying to bully people around!

Maybe these losers should quit stealing other people's stuff first!    Hopefully they'll mail me a cease and desist letter too so I can post it up here and have a good laugh at their expense!

Thank you for your remarks, you are 100% right on all accounts. I am the one that did the mailing with the dreadful Microsoft clipart. The globe is supposed to be the universal symbol for the 'World Wide Web'.

I think what they are saying is they own the trademarked globe for the 'World Wide Web'. If so their lawyers are going to be very busy for the next 100 years suing everyone. I wanted to post the letter they sent also in case anyone needs a good laugh. (Victim's name blacked out to protect the innocent!)

They can go get f#cked. I hope Microsoft sues them for stealing Microsoft clip art and claiming it as their own.

Wow, this is just brutal....how many other companies have logo's that are globes with a grid pattern on them?!?

I'm not sure, but if you would skicow, please post with something that says http://www.realtyworld.com really sucks so that we can get it indexed on google appropriately. They are threatening some really nice people to boot over this, and it's friggin Microsoft Publisher!

Thier web sites says "Give Us 5 Minutes And We Will Give You The World".

So, I'm thinking of giving them 5 minutes.

Then, when I ask for my house overlooking a nude beach on the Mediterranean coast of France, and they tell me I'm crazy - can I sue them for false advertising?

If you can get me on the jury - you'll be a rich man. Those bastards suck. Not sure if you read the whole thread in the Coffeehouse, but the Chutzpah of http://www.realtyworld.com and how much they suck is beyond belief.

Complained to Microsoft about the liability of getting sued for using their crappy office programs and finally got a response today from their corporate master mind lawyers. Looks like they never even read the complaint!

Here is the jerk's response

Subject: RE: Copyright

Under Section 1.2 of our End-User License Agreement (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/tou.aspx), Realty World was granted the right to use the clipart image. That said, any trademark clearance that might be necessary prior to using the image as their corporate logo is the sole responsibility of Realty World. Thank you.

Microsoft cannot and will not comment any further on this matter. We encourage you to resolve this matter with Realty World directly.
