Team System thinks I'm a l0s3r

So far, I can't set up any of my data sources, I can't connect anything, and basically all I'm able to do is make cool looking shapes and leave myself meaningful comments.  Obviously Team System isn't one of those “don't worry about reading the instructions, just starting hacking away and you'll figure it out”.  Better stick to Sql Mobile for right now:

I can vouch for that one as well...it's a bit nasty if you just jump right into it!!

unfortunately..

Hi Bill,
I actually write some of the um.... manuals for this ;) Connections are made through endpoints, which are the small boxes on the larger boxes. If you hover over the small blue box on the Web service until you get a connection cursor and then drag to the windows app, you will be able to connect the apps. If you're using the December CTP, press the alt key when you have an endpoint selected to get the connection cursor.

Here's a pointer to a group of walkthroughs that you can use to get started with Team Architect http://blogs.msdn.com/a_pasha/archive/2005/01/27/362038.aspx. And here's a link to what's not working in the December CTP http://blogs.msdn.com/robcaron/archive/2005/01/27/361414.aspx.

If you have any problems with the product, please send me mail at elonat@online.microsoft.com (remove the "online").

Thanks!

Thanks Elona ;-). I'm starting to make some progress on it - but your links definitely help.

Great! Are you using the December CTP version?

One thing I noticed above is that it looks like you're attempting to add your data sources from Server Explorer (a very reasonable assumption). You will actually need to add those from the toolbox.

Team Architect supports a number of application types by default, one of which is an external database. After adding the database app to the design surface, connect it to another app through the database provider endpoint. When you make this connection, a database consumer endpoint will appear on the app you connected the database to. At this time, you'll be prompted to configure your data source.

If you want to change the connection string properties later on, select the database consumer endpoint and then edit the connection string property in the Properties window. Note this property value has an ellipsis that will bring up the Connection Properties dialog box when you click on it.
