"Clearly"
Today I got a response to one of my posts bitching about crystal reports where the dude says “as someone who works with the product extensively I can see that people above clearly have not taking any training before using the product so that they could understand how to use it effectively. “
Clearly has to be the most misused word in the world. Ok, I got training from a dude that was certified by Seagate to teach the stuff - and I still think that all of the later versions suck. Back in 7.0 - fine it was cool - but everything afterward totally blows.
I could make the statement, clearly you JUMPED to the wrong conclusion or clearly you misjudged this situation - but why? It's just such an Obnoxious way to communicate isn't it? Actually, I probably hate Clearly more than any other word in the language becuase it immediately fires off the CondescendingAndInnacurateComment event. I swear that 70% minmum of the time I hear people predicate something with Clearly - they are clearly wrong.
So lets say that in the above case I said “I use the product a lot and from what I can tell - much of the issues mentioned look more like unfamialirity on the user's part than product deficiencies...“ But logically speaking - isn't it possible, if I was a total moron - to get training and still not know how to use the product? Yes, it is. So maybe I'm an idiot - but that's not enough evidence to properly surmise that I clearly didn't get training. But what if I got training and the trainer was either an idiot or covered other areas? I could still have the same symptoms right?
Let's face it, when we add in Clearly - that's usually just a way to say “Your an idiot“ in a semi-polite way. But I'd rather be told “You're an idiot“ because it's more direct and well, I clearly wouldn't have to listen to people make statements that are in all likelihood goign to be incorrect.
Nothing against the guy that posted this - but I just really really really really really hate the word Clearly anymore. Hopefully you all agree with me and I made my point clearly enough?
