Just spent a relaxing weekend in the W Atlanta. It was awesome. We ate at the Fire Of Brazil. It was GREAT. Sure, it's not like the typical Churrascaria that might find back in Miami but it was still really good. No, Chimichurri but it was a Brazillian place, not Argentinian so I can't really complain. Basically, if you haven't been to one of these, there's a pretty elaborate salad bar spread with a lot of great food. Then, people come by with meat on Skewers and fish, lobster etc and you just take a few slices. You never get served an entree per se, the food just keeps on coming and you pretty much make a night of it, eating a little bit of stuff over a long period of time. They bring by Yuca and Platanos periodically too - and if you haven't had them yet - you're missing out. In Miami, there were Argentinian Churrascarias that were pretty damned cool. Same M.O. but usually there was entertainment, like dudes juggling flaming sticks and scantilly dressed women dancing to drum music. The W Atlanta seemed to have gotten a little more Hip since last year. It's one of the more 'tame' ones - it's in the South after all and if they really did it up - that would freak too many people out. I'm torn on which one is my favorite. I think the one in San Fran (where I will be staying for VS Live) is probably the 'coolest' but the W Seattle was probably the best experience over all. We got the extra big room this time - had a living room, full kitchen - the works but didn't really hang out in it that much.
I think there was a college Winter Formal nearby and a Washed Up MILF Wannabe convention too. It was a bit noisy this time and it's usually surprisingly quiet. The MILF Wannabes were great though. We got on the elevator and this lady - probably 55 years old, and her girl (55+ too), got on with us. The first one was wearing this aqua blue dress that had this tail thing that dragged about 1 foot behind her on the ground when she walked. One puddle and it was history. She even stepped on it twice while we were on the elevator. Then her girl had this all black get up on, with a skirt so short that it would make most 16 year old girls blush. Then there were lots of dudes downstairs - 55-65 trying to look like they were attending a showing of Miami Vice. Lot's of Bald Heads with REALLY bad hairpieces or combovers.
Why men don't just go Bald gracefully is beyond me. I don't think I've ever heard anyone make fun of someone that was Bald or Grey. And I don't think I've ever seen a combover that didn't cause a bunch of laughs. Same for Plugs. Maybe Si Sperling and the Hair Club for Men says otherwise, but spending 15k (or any money) for a 'hair system' that only gets you laughed at - seems kinda silly to me.
Atlanta is definitely a hopping place. We didn't really do a whole lot other than just chill out at the hotel, head to Fire of Brazil, walk around and eat brunch at the Cheesecake factory. That was a trip too.
Going to the bathroom, I heard the waitstaff talking:
Waiter: “So this chick thinks she's all that and she be trying to holla at me. She a freak”
Waitress: “She a freak? How many people you think she's been with?”
Waiter: “She said like 25.”
Waitress: “Hell, I was with more than that by the time I was 16”
Then, when I was in the restroom - I was totally violated - VIOLATED. Some dude runs in there, opens a stall and just starts letting loose. I heard multiple Plops, Sprays, Rips and splatterings. I even heard a “uhhhhhh” I ran out and wasn't right for a while.
Then Kim started making faces like she was disturbed with something. Apparently, a little kid was at a booth behind us and a little kid - probably 3-4 -- was licking and tonguing the Menu. I'm so glad I didn't see that. I'm already a germ freak enough as it is. I don't know - even when I was a kid - plastic just never seemed tasty enough to tongue. The mom didn't appear to want to stop the kid from doing that or jumping on the booth but fortunately the dad came back (I think he was the guy in the stall b/c he walked from where the bathroom was) and put an end to it. The food was great though.
Overall we had a great time - and it was a needed relaxer. Not to mention that going out this time of year is never is always going to be chocked full of interesting stuff. Will post pics tomorrow ;-)
