Great comment by Andy

If only  this guy taught every CS101 course:

<<I have a friend that was for many years a professor and his classes started on paper. The assignment was to write a set of instructions that a computer could read and get the contents of a pitcher of water from the pitcher into a glass. The professor was the computer and he would read each students work and execute it. Needless to say the floor was often covered with water by the time class ended each day. The students never saw a computer screen until every one of them could get the water into the glass. This, he said, sometimes took a whole quarter depending on the class. The man is an absolute genius and the teaching world lost a great man when he quit teaching to take care of his aging father. He still runs a web site that focuses primarily on VB, because he really, really, likes VB and sees it's potential. >>

Although I would change one thing if I were the prof - I'd use Beer and a hold class on Wing Night at the local bar.  Then you'd see precision previously unknown to mankind.

He actually still does teach in a way. Every once in a while he runs an online course via his web site and takes a few students. He keeps the numbers very small as he doesn't have a whole ton of time and the classes are geared toward bringing newbies up to speed on things that people with non programming backgrounds tend to be very bad at. Such as I think his most recent one was on designing good user interfaces. I think the one before that was begining VBA. I think he only does it to pay bandwidth costs for his site. I wish he still taught in a classroom setting I'd have my company hire him to come teach computer software design theory for a few weeks to all the analysts who have become "Access programmers".
