Amazon Web Service 4.0 (Beta)

Published Sat, Aug 21 2004 16:17 | William

Just got the invite from Amazon to take part in the Beta for the 4.0 WS Release.  There's a lot of cool  stuff in it - if you're interested, I'd encourage you participate.  So far I've used Google's Web Service (API) and Amazon's and while they are still pretty young, they aren't short on functionality.  Besides, using a commercial web service confirms that your app is connecting correctly and all that jazz and all in all, it's just plain cool.

I haven't used either API commercially yet but played with Google's way back when i was learning web services..was more for R&D than real commercial value.

same now, and this is said without knowing too much about either service, i can't see much "real" use for them - but hey, a bit of looking into it might change that.

I've beat the sh1t out of both of them. Even though I'm moving and have my network hacked apart, I plugged my laptop into my girlfriends router and started cracking away at 4.0 last night. I found http://www.apress.com/book/bookDisplay.html?bID=273">http://www.apress.com/book/bookDisplay.html?bID=273 book by http://www.apress.com to be a real winner. If you need any help with either of them - let me know I'll be glad to do what I can. Here's a quick example of one I wrote (it's really short but gets you through the guts of it at it's most basic) and if you want to spider stuff, it's a really easy wa to do it. I think I went through it in my web cast too, Google changed the API a bit. If you need anything at all, don't hesitate to let me know.
