MVP Summit 2004 - Day 1

Published Sun, Apr 4 2004 10:15 | William

Kim and I got in today around 12:30.  We got a cab from Seatac from an Indian fellow that was the coolest.  Even though we were in a Minivan, we made record time.  Got to the W around 1:15 and it's everything I expected.  I have a different view of the city than the last time I was here, but it still rocks.  And it's impossible, Impossible to not have a totally kick a33 room in the W.

Anyway, we walked over to a little Thai Restaurant right by the Space Needle and Kim saw a bunch of places she could bankrupt us , I mean shop at. Louis Vitton, Barney's, Brooks Brothers, were but a few.  Only passed three bums, err, homeless people which is less than you'd find in any 10 meters in San Francisco.  Don't get me wrong, I liked SF, but it made me rethink my contention that my hometown of Miami as Bum Capital of the world.  This one guy had a proshtetic leg, and removed it (only prosthetic from the ankle down but you still had to feel bad for him) and sat it in the middle of the side walk.  All homeless have a different pitch, his would be to look at his leg, then say “Contribute to the United Negro Pizza Fund, Nothing in your stomach is a terrible thing to taste”.  Original...So we got there, and the food was divine.  Ordered ridiculous amounts to Tom Kah Kai which they served in like a 44 oz bowl (fine with me).  I guess this is what Augusta will be like in 30 years and Spartanburg in another 150.

I got up early today (early here, 6:00 - which would make me an hour late to work if I were back home) went to Starbucks, loaded up on the espresso, got Kim some coffee too and got to cranking on stuff.  They have a magazine here, TeknoPhile which is really great.  All sorts of great deals on computers and cutting edge articles (the local bummery takes these free magazines, obnoxioulsy try handing them to you begging “Please take one“ and when you do, you owe them money.  I prefer to get them out of the machines (much cleaner) and just make small donations to the bummery, I mean guys down on there luck who wreak with the smell of alcohol and free of any smell of soap or deoderant.

Today Registration starts around 3:00 and that's when the fun begins.  I'm already regretting it b/c I know I'll have to leave in a week and I hate leaving the W.  This one is dark compared to the others, and probably the coolest (although it's really a draw with SF).

Will be reporting back shortly.

BTW, I'm in room 1008 if you need me.
