Windows Vista has more drivers built-in at launch than any previous version Windows - 19,500 in fact!
Another 11,500 will be waiting via Windows Update too...
In contrast, Windows XP only had 10,000 drivers on its CD, with only 2000 on the Windows Update service, so this is a major improvement.

Has Windows Vista been "cracked" already? Even as it goes GOLD?
The Windows version that is currently circulating on some P2P websites called "Vista BillGates".
It doesn’t feature any activation cracks itself, and the supplied product key that comes with the download is just for the installation.
So you could in theory download and install the RTM (Build 6000) version of Windows Vista for 30 days BUT
The "activation crack" is a separate download.
AND this is where the problem will arise for anyone trying to use this pirated version of Windows Vista.
It works by replacing the licensing components with components from recent beta builds. Then using a product key from Beta 1, Beta 2, RC1 or RC2, the GOLD version (Build 6000) of Vista can be activated online.
Or so you would think...
My guess is that this particular loophole won’t be open for very long.
Microsoft has a list of EVERY product key it issued during the beta testing, so it’s not going to be difficult to blanket block them once the testing period officially ends!
Anyone with the pirated build will end up with a hard drive full of software that they can barley use.

In the old days (that is, before Vista went RTM ), pretty much everybody ran as Administrator on their machines: Developers, executives, managers(!), children, and politicians.
In this video, Channel 9 meet with a couple of the guys behind User Account Control at Microsoft, which is a push away from that model.

I have had a chance to play with my free CODEC checking utility on Windows Vista and am Glad to report that it works fine.
If you have never used this little application then take a look here:
http://www.updatexp.com/sherlock-codec-detective.html
The reason I wrote this app. was for the countless Windows XP users who are asked in newsgroups etc. what audio and video CODECS they have installed on their computer.
Well this app. will export that information to a text file that can then be emailed to a newsgroup or technical support etc.
AND you do NOT even have to install it.
