Copertura World Cyber Games (Giorno 5 - Ultimo)

GIORNO 5 - 22 OTT '06 

Dopo una sosta nella sala stampa, l’ultimo giorno dei World Cyber Games, abbiamo assisitito all’intenso match fra i NiP (Svezia) ed il TeamPentagram (Polonia) per la Medaglia d’Oro in Half Life: Counter Strike 1.6. La partita è stata grandiosa, entrambi i clan hanno fatto del loro meglio e lo show è stato semplicemente stupendo. Il TeamPentagram ha perso un membro al secondo round per via di problemi tecnici ad un computer, questo ha fatto ritardare l’intero torneo in quanto gli arbitri non riuscivano a trovare un accordo sul risultato di quel round. Alla fine, TeamPentagram è riuscito a rimettersi insieme e a concentrarsi sul match, vincendo l’Oro. 

Parlare con Domenic, Trixie, VideoMonkey e Matt è sempre stato un piacere. Spero di rivedervi presto, forse al WCG 2007 o ancora prima…

La premiazione e la cerimonia di chiusura hanno avuto luogo subito dopo la finale del torneo di Project Gotham Racing 3 sul palco al centro della pista di Formula 1. La finale ha visto TTRCh0mpr (USA) e TTR_Mclaren_F1 (Svezia) sfidarsi per il titolo di Campione del Mondo. Ch0mpr ha avuto la meglio e ha portato a casa l’Oro per gli Stati Uniti.

Il Campione dei World Cyber Games 2006 è stato il Team Korea che ha impiegato circa quattro anni per riprendere questo titolo. Team Russia ha vinto il  secondo posto con una medaglia d’Oro ed una di Argento, mentre Team Germania si è piazzato al terzo con una medaglia d’Oro ed una di Bronzo. A seguire altre quattro nazioni hanno ricevuto una medaglia d’Oro, includendo Canada, China, Polonia ed USA.

Dopo le premiazioni, la bandiera dei WCG è passata nelle mani di Mr. Ralph Morton (Executive Director of Seattle Sports Commission, che ospiterà i WCG 2007) e dopo questo, fuochi d’artificio hanno illuminato il cielo… WCG è stata una esperienza indimenticabile e spero di trovarmi in Seattle l’anno prossimo.

World Cyber Games Coverage (Day 5 - Final)

DAY 5 - 22 OCT '06 

After a stop in the press room, on the final day of the World Cyber Games, we watched the intense and close match between NiP (Sweden) and TeamPentagram (Poland) for the Gold Medal in Half Life: Counter Strike 1.6. The match was great, both clans did their best and the show was simply amazing. TeamPentagram lost a team member during the second round due to technical problems with a computer, this delayed the whole tournament because the referees had trouble making a decision on that round’s result. In the end, TeamPentagram was able to get back together and focus on the match, winning the Gold. 

Talking to Domenic, Trixie, VideoMonkey and Matt was always a pleasure. I hope to see you all soon, maybe in WCG 2007 or sooner…

The prizing and the closing ceremony took place right after the Project Gotham Racing 3 Final Tournament on the main stage located on the racing circuit. The PGR3 final saw TTRCh0mpr (USA) and TTR_Mclaren_F1 (Sweden) competing for the title of World Champion. Ch0mpr had the best and brought home the Gold Medal for USA.

The Grand Champion of World Cyber Games 2006 appeared to be Team Korea. It took about four years for Team Korea to get the Grand Champion title back in World Cyber Games since 2003. Team Russia won the second place in medal tally with one gold and one silver medal while Team Germany placed as the third with one gold and one bronze medal. Four countries including Canada, China, Poland and USA won one gold medal respectively.

Following the awarding ceremony, the WCG flag was handed over to Mr. Ralph Morton (Executive Director of Seattle Sports Commission, which will host the WCG 2007) and after that fireworks light up the sky… WCG has been an unforgettable experience and I look forward to being in Seattle next year.

While the tournaments took place, the World Cyber Games gained attention from the Italian Government authority and from the major national television networks including SKY Sport, RAI 1, RAI 3 and TG5.

Nella giornata di oggi si sono svolti i quarti di finale, le semifinali e per alcuni giochi le finali.

I giochi che hanno raggiunto le finali sono:

Con lo svolgersi dei tornei, i World Cyber Games hanno guadagnato attenzione da parte dell’autorita’ Governativa Italiana e delle maggiori reti televisive nazionali, includendo SKY Sport, RAI 1, RAI 3 e TG 5.

Abbiamo inoltre incontrato VideoMonkey e la nota personalita’ Xbox.com Trixie, con la quale abbiamo assistito ai quarti di finale di Half Life: Counter Strike 1.6: vinte dagli Svedesi contro gli USA.

Newsbreak: Backpack stolen

Sigh... happens to everyone at least once... My backpack was stolen shortly after Counter Strike's Tournament match. Lost the cables to upload images so that will be the end of those until I get back home. Ciao!

Durante la mattinata abbiamo potuto leggere con soddisfazione sul WCG News Report  la nostra intervista a cura di Isabella, fatta al Saint Georges Premiere.

“Siamo Italiani, ma e’ la nostra prima volta a Monza. Il Media Tour e’ stato molto interessante: abbiamo scoperto che ST Microelectronics e’ di importanza mondiale e siamo fieri che abbia la sede principale in Italia. Ieri, la Cerimonia di Apertura era stupenda: e’ un piacere vedere giocatori di tutto il mondo riuniti per un evento sportivo.”

Il pomeriggio e’ stato caratterizzato da un incontro molto amichevole con Dominic, un rappresentante Bungie, nello stand Microsoft. Durante la nostra conversazione ci ha spiegato che il suo compito consiste nell’osservare come i giocatori regiscono con Halo 2 su Windows Vista e fare regolarmente rapporto alla Bungie.

Dopo questa breve chiacchierata abbiamo giocato ad alcuni giochi che usciranno a breve includendo Call of Duty 3 e Gears Of War.

Il Comune di Monza, fiero di ospitare i WCG ha gentilmente offerto alla stampa una visita guidata del Duomo, della Cappella dove è custodita la famosa Corona Ferrea e del Museo del Tesoro.

Dopo una breve passeggiata per il centro storico di Monza, ci siamo recati ad Agrate Brianza dove ha sede la ST Microelectronics. Durante il tragitto siamo inoltre passati davanti alla Villa Reale.

World Cyber Games Coverage (Day 1 and 2)

Introduction

The World Cyber Games finals are held this year in Monza, Italy.

The event will see approximately 700 players from 70 countries competing against each other in the famous Formula 1 racing circuit, Autodromo Nazionale di Monza.

Your Community Reporters TR1GG3R MAN and GURYX are on site following the event and will be here until Sunday night, when the Closing Ceremony will take place.

DAY 1 - 18 OCT ‘06

After picking up our Press Pass, we ventured in the Autodromo and casually ended up in the VIP tribune area from which we saw the Opening Ceremony.

The inauguration took place on a stage in middle of the racing track; it was a huge concert with the group of flag bearers, fireworks and much more.

Unfortunately some pictures are not of the best quality because in many occasions we couldn’t use our flash cameras.

It’s amazing how the Autodromo was able to adapt it self to host such an event. Each floor has hundreds of gaming stations that are continuously online and ready to play. On the second floor we found the Press Center, which has 94 tribune places, food & drinks, and about 80 seats with computers.

DAY 2 - 19 OCT ‘06

The Comune of Monza, proudly hosting the World Cyber Games offered us a guided tour of the Duomo, the Cappella where the famous Crown Ferrea is held and the Treasury Museum.

After a brief walk through the historic center of Monza, we went to Agrate Brianza where ST Microelectronics has its headquarters. On the way, we also passed in front of the Villa Reale.

After the guided tour of the worldwide leading company of electronic components, the Comune of Monza offered us lunch at the famous restaurant Saint Georges Premier, where the Assessor for Tourism welcomed us. During lunch we met many people and were interviewed by Isabella for Friday’s WCG News Report.

In the afternoon we went to various Cyber Spaces and visited the Microsoft booth. Here we played Gears Of War and kicked ass on Halo 2 for Windows Vista.

In a couple hours I’ll be heading off to Monza where the World Cyber Games Tournament finals will take place. I’ll be meeting up with TriXie, VideoMonkey, Italian Xbox contacts and friends from the Xbox.com forums.
