So today my new Dell Axim V50x was delivered. Yes, a beautiful, crisp 640x480 display, Bluetooth, Wifi... a 624 XScale processor as well as a 1 gig flash disk drive... I'm very excited :-) And scheduled for arrival tomorrow is my Audiovox SMT 5600. Woo hoo! The problem with all of these things is that they were delieved to my dorm in Nebraska... and I'm in Washington state. Till Tuesday:( And of course the mailroom will be closed when I get in, so I won't have my toys till Wednesday. I guess I'll just have to learn some patience.

Heading back to school...

Woo hoo, I can't wait to get back to school... only 9 days! I'll be in Seattle early next week and fly from there to Nebraska (where I go to school) on the 16th. I'm really looking forward to this year for many many reasons. I think this is gonna be a great year.

Well, we're here in beautiful Newport, Oregon. I like it a lot so far, except for the lack of wifi or even broadband in the rooms. I'm on dial-up now, but will probably use this chance to cut the cord and live life. And watch a bunch of Channel 9 videos I have sitting on my hard drive that I haven't had a chance to watch yet. Anyway, enjoy the weekend!! Happy Fourth!

Today Americ'a little sister to the north celebrates its independence. I was up in Victoria, B.C. two years ago today, and it was very cool to see fireworks over the harbor and party with the locals (except for the fact the fireworks were set to Candian pop music). I know how much I love celebrating my Independence Day, so I'm sure most Candians enjoy celebrating theirs, too. We're heading out early tomorrow on a road trip for the holiday weekend. Not sure about an internet connection at the hotel, so I'll wish you all a happy Fourth of July now. Travel safely! Wear your seatbelt! Don't drink and drive! Watch out for the terrorists!

Out for the weekend

Ah, back inside with the nice AC and juice for my laptop. Plus with Nirvana on XM, life is good. I'll be headed out this weekend. We're driving down to Portland and then out along the Oregon coast before heading back to Spokane, with a possible stop in Seattle. I'll be around a bit tomorrow and then back on Tuesday or Wednesday. I'll be taking the laptop along but I'm not sure if the hotel will have internet or not. Anyway, have a good holiday weekend for those in the US, and a good weekend for non-Americans :-)

Wonder Outlook

So right now I have three apps open that have almost the exact same layout and relatively same purpose - Outlook (for my email), Outlook Express (for my newsgroups), and RSS Bandit (for my feeds). I know there are plug-ins for Outlook that let it handle all of these features, but I don't see why they couldn't be supported natively (well, I understand Outlook not supporting feeds... for now). Oh, and the ability to post to blogs (a la w.bloggar) would be excellent. Mail, newsgroups, and feeds are all different, sure, but I think they're related enough that a unifying app would be just kick ass. Well, my battery is dying, so I must be off.

Scoble turning off comments?

I try to stay away from blogging about blogging, but Josh Ledgard has a good reply to Scoble's recent talk of turning off comments. Before I get to my point, I should point out that Scoble has been teasing readers about some “secret new technology” that changes the way he blogs (and will so even more once it is not so secret). He says, “But, when you see this thing (probably a couple more months) you'll see that all you need to do to leave a comment on my blog is to have a blog yourself and link to it.”

Scoble has talked a lot about turning off his comments lately, and said that he's enjoyed them being down cause he's gotten a lot more done. And that's cool, I'm sure we all like having more time. However, it just strikes me odd since Scoble is all about having discussions. Even though I've come down on Scoble a time or two, I do really like him and I think he's done a lot to pioneer conversation on the web (especially when it comes to interation with Microsoft). That said, I think turning off comments is a bad idea. And this new technology that he's talking about (maybe some kind of linking technology?) sounds like it will silence a lot of people out there who don't have blogs (assuming the blogger turns off traditional comments). Anyway, go check out Josh's post that articulates this much better than I'm doing.
