  • Tying up loose ends..

Both are related to the computer either becoming unresponsive and/or having to shutdown. 1. The Ultra power supply When the computer started to shut down, I knew that it was an issue with the supply itself. That removing the power cord and re-inserting it, told me as much. I had chased down other routes...

  • nVidia 260.99 drivers

The installation progressed without incident and, at the end of it all, I ran MSTS in 1024 x 768 and the game no longer filled the 19’ widescreen. So I rolled back to the 258 driver, and it still wouldn’t fill the screen. I also picked up another problem in that coming out of sleep or hibernate was slowed...

  • nVidia 197.45

Here we go again. Yet another release by nVidia, the third WHQL this year. As far as Windows 7 is concerned, this release is good for everything 6 series and above. After install, the screen is jittery until the system is rebooted, after which it all settles down nicely. This version appears to have...

  • nVidia 197.13 is getting worse

.. to the point where I have once again reverted back to 191.07. To be honest, none of the updates since 191.07 have added anything of merit to the performance of the 6 series video cards, so I may just leave things as they are from now on. I am not going to make a silly statement to the effect that...

  • nVidia drivers..

Its been a while since nVidia graphics updates have worked for me. I have been using 191.07 because anything else made my Pageflakes home page go into spasm if the mouse was run across it. Some good news.. driver version 197.13 works great.. get it here..  http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index5.aspx...

  • nVidia Graphics drivers – Important

Version 196.75 drivers can possibly kill your graphics card.. A statement from nVidia.. “We are aware that some customers have reported fan speed issues with the latest 196.75 WHQL drivers on NVIDIA.com. Until we can verify and root cause this issue, we recommend that customers stay with, or return to...

  • Add Bloat To Taste

Actually, I hate the word 'bloat', but I use it now because it is bandied around quite a lot. According to sources, the next version of Windows will no longer include an e-mail client, picture viewer, and MovieMaker. It is said that this will benefit the user in as much as the latest versions...

  • Where To Get Device Drivers ..

Windows Update should only be used to obtain drivers for a device in your computer if you are unable to locate drivers for a simple generic device like, for example, an internal modem or network interface card. You could take a chance and try others which are offered but so many have problems doing this...

  • Vista's 1st Birthday..

The Delivery From the point where I knew that Vista RTM was on its way, I had a nerve wracking time in MS Connect. I had already downloaded Office 2007 earlier in the day, and was now pacing the floor, continually stopping at the screen to see if Vista was there. At maybe 21:00 hrs on the evening of...

  • Compatibility and Updates..

Microsoft Office 2003 SP3 update has been released recently so, if you are running this version of Office, now is a good time to get it. The easiest way is to open Word 2003, click on HELP and then select 'Check for Updates'. Having arrived at the Microsoft Office Online web page, close down...

  • AC97 Sound Drivers - Vista 32bit..

Just recently, I noticed that sound through my speakers and headset was a little 'buzzy'. I don't remember doing anything to make it so, no updates or anything like that but, suddenly listening to music was not a pleasureable experience. So I set off in search of drivers. The RealTek website...

  • Vista and Gateway Support..

Every morning, I look through various RSS feeds, news and technical, and then I 'hit' the MS public newsgroups. News is often soul destroying, technical sometimes goes way over my head, and newsgroup material is it's usual baffling self, a combination of plaintiff cries for help and complete BS. RSS...

  • Canon Lide and Vista..

Canon have now released an official Vista driver and ToolBox for the venerable Lide 30 (and all of the Lide range). The earlier XP drivers and ToolBox actually worked in Vista, and I notice that the version numbers for Vista and XP drivers are the same. However, it is reassuring to have 'official' Vista...
