  • AHCI can be a real pain

Did you know that an ISA video card, e.g. the old Trident cards from the early days, can put up a display on a screen which enables you to recover from a corrupted BIOS. The only problem is the complete and utter lack of an ISA slot in today’s PCs. And you thought they were just junk? PCI VGA is detected...

  • nVidia 197.45

Here we go again. Yet another release by nVidia, the third WHQL this year. As far as Windows 7 is concerned, this release is good for everything 6 series and above. After install, the screen is jittery until the system is rebooted, after which it all settles down nicely. This version appears to have...

  • I couldn’t leave well alone..

. but it is no worse than it was, and may even be marginally better. I remember seeing a post in the MS Vista General newsgroup aways back which told of a new Intellipoint 7.1 driver. So, today, I installed it and waited a while. All good, so onto the next step and install nVidia 197.13. Before the reboot...

  • nVidia 197.13 is getting worse

.. to the point where I have once again reverted back to 191.07. To be honest, none of the updates since 191.07 have added anything of merit to the performance of the 6 series video cards, so I may just leave things as they are from now on. I am not going to make a silly statement to the effect that...

Its been a while since nVidia graphics updates have worked for me. I have been using 191.07 because anything else made my Pageflakes home page go into spasm if the mouse was run across it. Some good news.. driver version 197.13 works great.. get it here..  http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index5.aspx...

  • Windows 7: What to do if you can't find a driver

I am not one to plug companies I wouldn't use. So know this first, I have used Driver Detective. Some people out there will be upgrading to Windows 7 and will run into problems finding a driver. Now when I ran into the this problem in the early betas of Windows 7 I spent time looking for drivers...

  • Vista and keyboard scroll wheels..

I wrote about this when Vista first appeared. It took a while for the manufacturer to produce proper drivers for Microsoft keyboards, and when it was finally released, everything worked except for the scroll wheel. Subsequent driver releases were made, but the scroll wheel never worked. Up until now...

  • Vista 64 drivers..

Whenever I have mentioned anything about installing a 64bit OS and compatibility, some have been very quick to say “no compatibility problems here’ What they actually mean is that all motherboard devices are detected. In some cases, drivers for peripheral devices are available, especially if the devices...
