  • MSN Messenger update ... just give me the software please....

Yes, it is a change of focus for me to turn my attention to Windows Messenger instead of Messenger Plus! Yesterday I was alerted to a new build of MSN Messenger via auto-update so of course I installed it. This screen made me grumpy - all of the options were enabled by default: Fine, ask me about the...

  • Interesting (yes, really) post to Tech Talk Blog

I'll be honest.. ever since Rocky handed over the reins of the Tech Talk Group Blog I have found it to be boring and, if I am honest, it feels like it has swung too far towards being a marketing tool. Too many interviews about Technet and how wonderful Vista is going to be. That being said, there is...

The IT Goddess calendar is to be "officially" released on August 11 and has picked up a new sponsor, AAPT - you may recall the Australian Computer Society withdrew its sponsorship in somewhat controversial circumstances. The calendar will be unveiled by Queensland IT Minister, Chris Cummins at Warner...

http://www.out-law.com/page-7160 The EOLAS lawsuit has a long history, and was the reason behind the changes MS made to the way Internet Explorer handles embedded active content (update 912945): http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ie6/using/techinfo/activexupdate.mspx In 2003, a jury ruled that Microsoft...

Ok, so tell me something I *don't* know: http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/security/soa/Eighty_percent_of_new_malware_defeats_antivirus/0,2000061744,39263949,00.htm The time is long past that I have depended on any antivirus or antispyware product to clean a system properly, or detect all malware files. • Microsoft acquires Wininternals (and by extension, Sysinternals)

Already there are rumblings of fear that the free sysinternals tools are going to disappear, or available only after successfully completing the WGA procedure: http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2006/jul06/07-18WinternalsPR.mspx For some the Sysinternals site is proving to be very slow to load...

http://livesearch.spaces.msn.com/Blog/cns!8560B877FE8E9138!355.entry It is not the best "wrap the office cubicle in alfoil (or cling wrap)" effort that I've seen, but still, its nice to know they have fun. BTW, my apologies for that damned tendency of MSN Spaces to try and run the "Windows Messenger...

Edit: Be careful with this one; I'm hearing reports of users losing their contact lists, and problems when logging in. Export your contacts before trying out this product. You know, when the HP technician tells you that your laptop's problems with wireless network speeds are caused by "the web sites you are visiting" you know its time to give up and go elsewhere. Maybe this time when I get it back it will be fixed. Its *so* frustrating when you put something in for repair, and it comes back with a note saying they can't find anything wrong, I turn it on and {bang} there it goes again. This time the laptop has been returned to HP with an *.avi on the desktop recording...
