  • Where do you benefit from dynamic typing?

Disclaimer: I don't want this to become a flame war in the comments. I'm coming from a position of ignorance, and well aware of it. While I'd like this post to provoke thought , it's not meant to be provocative in the common use of the term. Chapter 14 of C# in Depth is about dynamic...

  • Recent activities

It's been a little while since I've blogged, and quite a lot has been going on. In fact, there are a few things I'd have blogged about already if it weren't for "things" getting in the way. Rather than writing a whole series of very short blog posts, I thought I'd wrap them...

  • The trouble with book reviews

I'm currently reading two .NET books: Accelerated C# 2008 (Trey Nash) and Concurrent Programming on Windows (Joe Duffy). I will, in due course, post reviews here. However, the very act of thinking about the reviews has made me consider the inevitable inadequacies. There tend to be two kinds of people...

  • C# in Depth - it's really real

On Saturday, when I returned from Mountain View, there were two boxes waiting for me. Guess what was inside... So yes, it really exists, it's slightly slimmer than expected - and even Amazon have it for sale now instead of as a "pre-release". Apparently they'll have stock on May 3rd...

  • Programming "in" a language vs programming "into" a language

I'm currently reading Steve McConnell's Code Complete (for the first time - yes, I know that's somewhat worrying) and there was one section was disturbed me a little. For those of you with a copy to hand, it's in section 4.3, discussing the difference between programming in a language...

  • Real-time rendering

Recently I bought an interesting book, Real-time rendering . I have not completely finished reading this book, but it contains a lot of useful information. For example I have found there solutions for some problems I had while working on my ModelConverterX tool. But the explanation of how the rendering...

  • Bridging gaps, and finding my role

Warning: this post won't teach you anything technical. It's about how I see myself. That may be of interest to you, or it may not. If not, feel free to skip it knowing you're not missing anything else. One of the great problems of the world today is undoubtedly this problem of not being able...

  • LINQ to Silliness: Generating a Mandelbrot with parallel potential

I've been writing about LINQ recently, and in particular I've written a small amount about Parallel LINQ . (Don't get excited - it's only about a page, just to mention it as a sort of "meta-provider" for LINQ.) I was wondering what to use to demonstrate it - what general task...

  • LibraryThing

I have quite some books (despite my not so old age). I guess if I keep collecting them at this pace I will need a bigger house soon to store them, or I might have to give up some more space in the living room. In the past I have tried some computer programs to catalog all the books I have, but I never...
