Need to shutdown or restart multiple machines on a domain quickly?
Merv Porter casually tossed this out while in a discussion about remote restart options and I couldn't believe I hadn't ran across it sooner. If you want to hit multiple computers in your domain with a restart or shutdown command, from Start -> Run or from the command line use shutdown -i and you will get a GUI interface. I had breezed by it in the shutdown command options list in the past. Mentioned it last night at the PSSBS User Group Meeting and no one in there had heard of it either.
What's great is when the Remote Shutdown Dialog window comes up select the browse button, then Find Now, and you will have your entire AD listed. You can then select the first machine, scroll down to the last and shift-click, ctrl-click any you want to remove, and now you have selected all the machines you need for shutdown or restart. And all this with comments as well! Very cool indeed. Thanks Merv for mentioning it!
