Bucksbill.com overcharging victims of fraudware

This is an update to my article written on 5 March wherein I warned that Bucksbill.com overcharging for fraudware such as "MalwareAlarm and Registry Defragmentation".

It is worth pointing out that several readers have commented that they, too, have been overcharged by Bucksbill:

Tonya says "The same thing happened to me with malware. I agreed to the 39.99 and 79.99 was charged to my credit card"

Gonzalo says "I also got charged 79.99. If you have a phone number or email address I can try please send it to me."

Bhagwan D. Varma says "I am also a victim of this trap.  Why we all should not approach the "Bettter Business Bureau" of Pasadena, CA, and seek their intervention."

According to Quantcast, the bucksbill.com domain receives 69,419 U.S. monthly unique visitors per month - that's a scary number of potential victims. I'll be interested to see if some sort of class action or other lawsuit is triggered by the overchargings.

It is important to note that victims of overcharging and unauthorised charges can dispute the charge with their bank or building society and request that the charge be reversed.

The Federal Trade Commission has published an advisory for victims of credit card fraud or overcharging that can be seen here:

I note that a purchase must be for more than $50 to fall within the ambit of the Fair Credit Billing Act... I wonder what the situation is if the *purchase* was for less than $50, but the amount actually charged was for more.

You should be able to issue a chargeback in any case - for small vendors, this not only causes them to pay the "discount fee" (~3%) coming and going, but also costs the vendor $25 per go, gets you your money back, and increases the risk assessment at the merchant bank on the vendor. Allegedly when the risk gets high enough, the merchant bank will drop the vendor.

Yep, I sure got suckered in.  39.95 my asss, I show a charge of 86.64.  And I didn't even recieve a product code that worked.  Has anyone been able to recieve a refund?

Hello I just bought the anti virus 2008 and got it for 49.99, but i cannot enter the code when i try, there's a dialog box saying : access violation at address 005429C5 in module 'Antvrs.exe'. Read of address 000002A8.

I have been calling several times to the phone number that appears on my buy print out and a recording appears saying that all circuits are busy now.

Can you help me on this.

I got on to BBB, I recived an email from the company was named as nick, BBB got back to me and the reply from the company "was we dont sell that software, regards Nick."

The telephone number from the support line for the product was identical to the reply from BBB.

I recently purchased the Antivirus 2008 thinking it was a viable product when I updated the parental controls on my computer. It interrupted my going to my usual website with the information that there were viruses on my computer. I didn't think it could be a fraud because of the manner it was presented and purchased the program for what I thought was a reasonable price of $49.95. My wife is more versed on the computer than I and pointed out to me that it was a fraud and I'm currently trying to stop payment on order #7037695 and hopefully will be successful as I came across your site by typing billingsvc.com 2063579013. If this information will help you to help me to be successful in stopping this charge and prosecute this fraud I would be most appreciative.

We also got cought up in this deal. The computer is jammed up with this fake software. Is there any way any one on here knows of to get rid of this junk. We have tried everything. Can't even get back to a system restore past the date of this partial install. Code they sent us won't work and deleting the files doesn't seem to work either. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Going to keep trying anything, computer is basically junk now anyway. If we hit on anything that works we will post it here. Good Luck everyone, add us to the list of refund seekers.

Add one more sucker to the list. This is incredible. I cannot go to any website because the stupid pop up comes us asking to purchase again. I have spent hours on hold only to have the line disconnect upon waiting to be finally connected to a live person. This happened muliple times. If anyone has a way of getting this crap off of my computer, I would appreciate you passing that along.

after reading your comments,I realize that I'm not alone. I can say the same words as you guys. Its a rip-off,those conartist should be stopped asap.Where are they located?WHO is responsible for this?  What kind of people are they? They certainly don't have a heart or aconscience. I do believe "what goes around,comes around" and someday they will feel [ maybe ]  some hurt. The sad part about that is,I won't know about it.

Had a major virus problem, brought the software, spent the next few weeks trying to sort the problem, then found my bank account had been ripped off!  Fantastic.  How stupid am I?  Now I have run spybot to sort out the virus, I can find no trace of the "software" I bought, so I can't even contact them...!  Any ideas?

Ok, there are a lot of people out there who are upset at being overcharged and defrauded by bucksbill.com.  Just check out the comments here and here.

Unfortunately, people are also emailing me directly because they (mistakenly) believe that I and/or this blog are associated with the fraudsters.  For example, check out this email:

"I dont know what this is but there was money taken from my account for this and I Know I DID NOT purshase this I have tried to call you several times and can not get through. Please contact me Donna Spencer 270-***-**** or 270-***-****. DO NOT TAKE ANY MORE MONEY FROM MY ACCOUNT CONTACT ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!!"

I have reported the scam to my bank, I have recived a refund from them, I would sugest doing the same, give them as much detail as possible, I used a printed webpage of the ammount I would be charged I.E $40USD and a copy of my recipt after the transaction at £80GRP (aprox) the bank as sent me a refund for the desputed amount,  I got £50GRP back. Better than nothing. T

I was also dope by the same fraudware! My order number is: billingsvc.com 2063579013. It damaged my computer to the point it have to be re formatted! I will go to the bank and report this scam. Hopefully they can help me get the refund, but knowing how things work in Dubai, I highly doubt it.
