whitepages.com and winfixer type adverts - how long as there been a problem?
Sadly, it seems that the problem has been around since at least the 4th of August.. cite (see message by henrietta134 towards the bottom of the page):
Nay, the dangerous ads have been around for even longer - see this report dated 4th July, apparently those behind whitepages.com reported that the problem was being cleaned up on 15 July:
I experienced another incident in the last hour or so, so I know the problem is not fixed.
This simply isn't good enough. whitepages.com have been aware since July that there is a problem. I have provided sufficient information in this blog for them to be able to track down the source of the malicious advertisements, and I know that they have been referred to my blog by another who reported the problem to whitepages.com AND who received an email response acknowledging the incident.
So, it seems to me that whitepages.com needs to take urgent action - and that action is to suspend their advertising accounts until it can be proven that the problem is gone. They won't be the first company to have taken the hard decision to pull the pin on a supplier of advertising content. The malicious advertisements are hijacking whitepages.com's visitors - taking them away INVOLUNTARILY from whitepages.com and dumping them on another page that tries to sell fraudware. I fail to understand why whitepages.com would allow their visitors to be stolen away like that. In such circumstances you don't allow advertising to continue to display until you track down the aberrant advertisement(s). You suspend the whole d*mned account and tell your supplier "fix it, prove you've fixed it, and then we might use you again".
