Ah, I wish I'd known this KB was being released...
Error message when you start Internet Explorer in Windows XP: "Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience"
Its an interesting compliment to my brief troubleshooting article:
The advice is kind of simplistic, but then again, so was my article. The MS article does illustrate, however, a few diagnostic steps that may help you work out if IE is your problem, or something else.
I must give this warning regarding the advice to run in safe mode with networking support. The worst malware will run in safe mode. Safe mode isn't the premier troubleshooting step that it used to be.. too many bad guys are not affected by that step.
