TrendMicro and the Windows Genuine Advantage Tool... all fixed

I'm pleased to report that Trend's online scan no longer flags the Windows Genuine Advantage Tool registry key as a browser hijacker.  I haven't tested myself, but can tell you that the original correspondent at Aumha who brought the problem to my attention has posted that the problem no longer occurs on his machine.  I've also received an email from Trend advising that the problem has been resolved.

The fix was meant to have gone live a few days ago, but technical issues caused a delay.

I'm also pleased to report that Trend have advised me that procedures have been put into place to ensure that the online scanner is updated faster than has been the case in the past (but we'll keep an eye on them anyway) ;o)

My thanks to Wayne Small (SBS MVP who has been at Trend these past few days and was able to chat to a few Trendies in person), Dal, Andy, George and Maggie at Trend, and Jerry at Microsoft, for taking an interest in the problem and working to get things fixed.

Hi Sandi,

Thanks to you and Charles for raising this issue.

In addition to correcting the faulty pattern file, we've replaced the old engine. We've added new capabilities and other tweaks. One of the key things you'll notice is the increased scanning speed.

I'm also going to work with the respective teams to make sure the online spyware tool is kept updated with new pattern files.

Thanks again,

Dal

Thanks for visiting Dal.

Now, what do you reckon about our working to get the online scan working with Internet Explorer 7?? <cheeky grin>
