HTC DROID DNA - Software update available for the "SIM Card not detected" issue

Woke up my phone this morning and discovered there was a software update available for my HTC DROID DNA. The description on the Verizon Wireless web site says: Improvements have been made to SIM card detection. If the update has not already been pushed to your phone, here's how to get it: Go to Settings - under System, choose Software Update and then Check new. When the update is complete, you should be at Version 2.06.605.1.

Software update for HTC DROID DNA available - fixes some connectivity issues

Last week Verizon announced a software update for the HTC DROID DNA that includes the following features and enhancements:

User can load videos on HuluPlus
Improvements to Hotspot connectivity have been made
Improvements to Audio Quality for wired headsets and earpieces have been made
Bluetooth connectivity and volume level for specific models have been improved
Enhanced reliability and stability of the Contacts List have been made
Wi-Fi Connectivity has been improved
Improvements to default browser for zooming capability have been made
Incoming messages display with the correct timestamp
Enhanced Recent Apps functionality has been improved

I got the update last Thursday because I have had a problem with maintaining a connection to my Bluetooth headset, so I am interested to see if this update fixes that problem. I did notice that the "No SIM Card detected" error is not on the list, but it's possible that's been fixed, too.

HTC DROID DNA – SIM card not detected issue – what fixed it for me

I’ve been using the HTC DROID DNA since mid-November and today I experienced for the first time the dreaded “SIM Card not detected” issue. Actually, I didn’t know it was a dreaded issue until I Googled for “DROID DNA SIM card not detected”. I found a number of threads in different forums about it. The solutions that worked are listed below, in no particular order:

Reboot the phone.
Go into and then out of Airplane Mode.
Pop the SIM card tray out, remove, clean, and reseat the SIM card and slide the tray back in.
Do a hard reset of the phone.
Go to the nearest Verizon store and get a new SIM card.
Go to the nearest Verizon store and get a replacement phone.

I tried No. 1 and No. 2 a number of times and it didn’t fix the problem, so onto No. 3. which did work. Here’s a link with instructions on how to insert and remove the SIM Card on the DROID DNA - the most important thing to remember is to turn off the phone before you start!

Upgrading to HTC Sync Version 3.2.20 for Android Phones fixed my connection problems

Ever since I got my HTC Merge (Android) from Verizon, I have been using HTC Sync to sync my Desktop Outlook Contacts and Calendar and it worked great - when the connection worked. Connecting my phone with a USB cable didn't always launch HTC Sync on my PC. Rebooting my phone and/or rebooting my PC sometimes helped, but the problem continued.

In May 2012, HTC released Version 3.2.20 of HTC Sync. The change log lists Updated USB driver to 3.0.0.021 and Enhanced connection stability among the improvements. I'm not sure which of these fixed the problem, but I've had consistent success connecting and syncing on the first try. If you haven't upgraded yet, I highly recommend it.

Uservoice site now open for Windows Phone Customer Feedback

Microsoft wants to understand how customers use Windows Phone and wants your feedback, so, they have created the Windows Phone Feature Suggestion Box at the Uservoice web site. You can search for ideas that other customers have posted, vote them up, and post your own comments. You can also submit your own suggestions and feedback. There are 27 categories of features and comments, so you should be able to find something you have an opinion on.

I have already voted up and commented on two suggestions - the ability to sync directly to Outlook on my desktop, and the lack of an SD card expansion slot. These two issues are what prompted me to look at other smartphone options when I switched carriers a couple of months ago, and I ended up with an Android phone.
