Desperately seeking Ariat Aptos in Black - Size 9

OK. I will admit it. I am all about the shoes. For the last few years, I have been wearing Ariat's Aptos all summer. They are the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn. I bought at least one pair every year, in black and wore them out by the end of the summer. I bought a pair at the end of the summer last year, and went looking for another pair a few weeks ago. Nobody has them any more - they are ALL SOLD OUT. Everywhere - Zappos, Turner's, Sierra Trading Post, Dodds, everybody. They're all gone. I have Googled my heart out, looking for a site that no one knows about that might have them - no luck.

Have you ever worn them? Do you miss them? Have you found any other sandal that compares to them? Can you let me know?

You might be an MVP if ...

Sean O'Driscoll, the General Manager of the Microsoft MVP Program, has published the list of 'secret criteria' used to determine whether someone is MVP material. I have to say that a large number of them apply to me - I'm not going to say which ones. Cool

Spending some time in Oak Island - in May and July
This weekend I booked two trips to Oak Island, NC, to spend some time with my parents. I booked a long weekend in May and a week in July. In May the weather will be like summer is here in Connecticut; in July it will just be very hot. Last summer my parents were still renovating their house so I haven't spent any real 'vacation' time there - I plan on spending some time at the beach right across the street.

FrontPage MVPs at the 2007 MVP Global Summit
Here's a group shot taken of the FrontPage MVPs at one of our platform sessions with the Expression Web Product Group, along with April Spence, our MVP Lead. I think the FrontPage MVPs are the best - we all get along so well - online and in person.

A visit to Fry's - Geek Heaven
While I was in Seattle, I got a chance to spend some time at Fry's Electronics, the store, not the web site. If you ever get a chance to go, don't pass it up, and plan on spending a lot of time there. They even have a cafe in the center of the store in case you need to rest and refresh. I have been thinking about buying a MacBook Pro, and normally, when you go to a store like Circuit City or Best Buy, you're lucky if they have more than one for you to check out. Fry's had 6 or 7 of them, as well as the Mac Mini and a number of Mac Desktops. And the sales staff is really knowledgeable about them and made some great recommendations. I didn't buy one though - I had a laptop with me on the trip and really didn't want to lug two of them home.

I did end up buying a Mio C310x Portable GPS on Patrick's recommendation. He has one (got it at Fry's on his last trip to the U.S.) and I got a chance to use while we were driving around on Sunday. I had it shipped home with a few other things that wouldn't fit in my suitcase and just opened the box today. I'm going to set it up and then go out for a drive and see how goes.

One other thing, Fry's is actually at 800 Garden Ave N in Renton, WA. And another thing - they don't take American Express, as a fellow MVP found out the hard way.

What a difference the right office chair can make
When I first set up my home office, I bought one of those good looking "Executive Chairs" - I thought it would be better than sitting all day on a dining room chair. Well, it was better, but not good for me or my back. The only adjustment I could make to it was the height. There was no way I could adjust the back to keep me sitting up straight.

While I was in Seattle for the MVP Summit, I stopped into an Office Depot and checked out their "Task Chairs" and found one that felt really good - it's the Office Depot® Brand Patriot Multifunction Task Chair. I went to a local Office Depot last week and they had it in stock - and it was already assembled - Woot! I'm sitting in it now, typing this post and boy does it feel good.

It's MVP Global Summit time again

The 2007 Microsoft MVP Global Summit is being held from March 12 to 15 in Seattle and Redmond, Washington. There are about 3,500 MVPs worldwide and at last count, approximately 60% of them are attending this year. It will be great to see old friends and make new ones and put faces to the names I've seen in the newsgroups. Bill Gates will be the keynote speaker and there's lots of technical and platform sessions on our schedule - and a few social events as well. On Monday night, after the Regional Dinner at the Westin, I'm going to the SupportSpace party at Gameworks. If you're an MVP and think you might want to go, get in touch with me and I'll send you an invitation.
