A quick way to clean up your FrontPageTempDir and *.web files

Steve Easton, a FrontPage MVP, has created a new tool called FPCleaner that will delete the temporary files that may get left behind when you exit FrontPage. It will also delete the *.web files (the cached copies of your site that can occasionally get corrupted and cause problems). I've been using it for a while now and gotten into the habit of running it just before I start FrontPage - in fact, it has a button to launch FP when you're through cleaning up.

Hi Derrick:
A great place to ask questions and pass on tips about FrontPage is the FrontPage newsgroup; this link: news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.frontpage.client will take you there.
Good luck!

Would this work with Sharepoint Server?

When you work on a remote server via FP, no temp files, etc. are created on the remote server, everything is on the machine where you are running the FP client application.

If you are running the FP client on the actual server with SharePoint, then it should work.

However are we really taking about Windows SharePoint Services or FP extensions, which are also referred to as SharePoint in many of the error/warning dialogs?

Sharepoint is saving .tmp files in FrontPageTemp, and they take up a lot of room. We're trying to find out if we can safely remove them - and if your tool wouuld handle it

With FP closed, you can delete the FP temp folder at any time, as FP will recreate or you can just delete the content of the folder.

The FPCleaner application can also be used to delete the files within the folder.

Yes FPCleaner will remove .tmp files created when working on a sharepoint server. As always however, you must close FrontPage to run FPcleaner

Barb, Your problem is a result of the banner add scripts your host is writing to the page. It even opened the Internet Connection Wizard on my machine. You need to contact your host about this issue.
