 | There’s a great deal going on now at the Microsoft Online Store. All Expression 2 products are on sale for 50% off. This is a great deal – Expression Web 2 normally sells for $299.95 – it’s on sale now for only $149.95. Also, buying Expression 2 now will enable you to get Expression 3 at upgrade pricing when Version 3 is released - there will not be a free upgrade/grace period option. This offer is US only. |
By the time I woke up this morning, all the good URLs for my real name were taken, so I chose http://www.facebook.com/spiderwebwoman I think it will work out – most people know me by that name anyway.
According to eWeek, Microsoft has set July 10 as the date for a launch event for version 3 of its Silverlight Rich Internet Application (RIA) technology and version 3 of the company's Expression design tools. In a "Save the Date" invitation, Microsoft announced the July 10 date as a launch event for Silverlight 3 and Expression 3, calling on prospective attendees to come and "see for yourself how Microsoft is helping teams light up Web experiences." Although the Microsoft invite said the launch event will be held "in the Bay Area," at 10 a.m. on July 10, it also said that further details would follow.

Microsoft has released an update to their Facebook application for Windows Mobile. Some users have been having problems with installation and a new copy of the app has been posted. This version should help anyone that was getting the “cannot install due to insufficient privileges” error and it should also help with some hanging errors. The Windows Mobile Blog Team says “You’ll want to uninstall the old application and then make sure that the facebook.vol and fbmail.vol files are deleted from your root directory before reinstalling. You can get the new .cab file at the download center or from your phone.”

I just found this great post at MobilityMinded that walks you through the desktop version of Facebook and then the Microsoft Mobile Facebook application that shows you what's the same and what's different.
I installed it last night and have found a couple differences so far:
- when you click on a friend's status update, there's no option to "Like" it
- when you click on a status update, whether your own or a friend's, you only see the last comment posted.
I'm going to keep poking around to see if there's something I'm missing. If you have found these options, could you let me know?
New from Windows Mobile: a Facebook application for your phone! Download the new Facebook application for Windows Mobile and:
-
Send messages to any of the people in your Friends list.
-
Take pictures and videos on your phone, then upload them right to Facebook.
-
Send messages or call people in your Friends list.
-
Manage your profile and post anytime, anywhere.
Keep up with the latest news and posts with Facebook on your phone. Now your status updates can be up-to-the moment accounts of what you’re doing. Photos and videos are about as close to live-action as you can get. Show your friends what you’re up to, while you’re out and about.
Connecting and sharing on Facebook just got a lot livelier!

If you are using Expression Web, and publishing to a server with the FrontPage Server Extension installed, you may not know there is a way to manage your FPSE Site permissions without using FrontPage 2003. There is, and the post explains how.

I’ve just had an article published in the latest issue of the Microsoft Expression Newsletter - Designing Web Sites for Accessibility with Expression Web 2. The article covers the reasons why you should make your web site accessible to people with disabilities, and how to use the tools in Expression Web 2 to make your web content accessible. I’m hoping this is the first in a series – there are many topics to be covered that there wasn’t room for in this article. You can subscribe to the Expression Newsletter and receive it by email every other month.
I started using Facebook Mobile on my HTC Mogul (WM 6.1) last summer and it worked fine. It saved my email address and password – all I had to do was use the link in my Favorites and I was logged in. Over the last few months, more often than not, I had to enter my password to get in. Now it happens all the time. It really makes it a pain to use Facebook Mobile now. This doesn’t happen with BrightKite Mobile or even with the Bank of America Mobile Banking web site (BOA saves my account number – I do have to enter my PIN, but it’s always been that way).
I tried another browser, Opera Mobile, but it happens with Opera, too. So, I’m thinking it’s either an issue with my phone, or a setting in my Facebook account, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out what it is and how to fix it.
Please let me know if you have any ideas!

Have you ever had a problem with your Windows PC, looked up the Microsoft KnowledgeBase article for the problem and found a long list of instructions to fix the problem? Yup, me, too. Have you ever asked, why can’t Microsoft just fix this for me? Well, now they can! Check out the Fix it for me blog – there’s a number of common problems listed there each with a link to a KB article with a “Fix it” button. Just click the button and your problem is fixed. I used the “Show Internet Explorer Icon Fix it” and it worked perfectly.

Earlier this month, the World Wide Web Consortium announced the availability of the W3C mobileOK checker, a free service that performs various tests on a Web page to help you determine its level of mobile-friendliness.
According to W3C Director Tim Berners-Lee, mobileOK checker builds on the suite of quality assurance tools already offered by W3C and "does a nice job helping you improve your content one step at a time."
To help ensure the best user experience across a variety of mobile devices, the Mobile Web Best Practices Working Group defined a set of recommended guidelines to follow when creating Web documents: the Mobile Web Best Practices 1.0 specification.
