Hi Bill,

This was caused by an upgrade to the back end services for SUS 1.0. The actual content (security update files and detection metadata) did not change, just the indicators that trigger approvals. We have investigated the root cause to help ensure that no similar problems will occur with future service upgrades.

As an update, the KB article now contains a link to a tool administrators can use to quickly return to the correct state.

I don't get it. What don't people just switch to Mac/Apple. I don't see Aplle/Mac sending out security bulletins every now and then!

Use regedt32 to give read permissions to the ASPNET account for these keys for the
"BC3400, class not registered error :

HKCR\CLSID\{0AE2DEB0-F901-478B-BB9F-881EE8066788} (for vbc.exe)
and
HKCR\CLSID\{0A29FF9E-7F9C-4437-8B11-F424491E3931}\InprocServer32 (for aspnet_wp)

gave read permissions to the ASPNET account for these keys resolved the
ResourcePool error:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0C7FF16C-38E3-11d0-97AB-00C04FC2AD98}

Are you saying when you "Properties">"Security TAB">"Add"? Make sure "From this location" is not domain. Must be pc or server name.

Microsoft's resolution for problems stemming from the installation of ms05-051 is north of me. I have found the .clb files in the registration folder, but none of them give me the options for the to restore the default permissions to the com+ catalog. I cannot find the "Everyone group" for read permission, can't find the "SYSTEM" account for full control permissions, and can't find any thing for the "full control" persmisions it states in the microsoft resolution draft. Has anyone else run into this problem? does anyone have the solution?

Microsoft keeps patching IE. Let's hope that they get it right in IE7. I'm specifically looking forward to their infocard technology to help in securing personal information from spyware.
