I'm currently testing out Power Pack 1 using my Vista 32 BIT machine. I haven't managed to break it yet, but I'm only just starting to play with some of the applications known to cause a problem with the corruption bug.

I should point out that, once installed, Windows Home Serverworks fine under Windows XP professional x64 - with the sole exception being that you can only restore drives, and not individual file. And testing this m offa few weeks ago with something I hadn't actually planned on doing. But I can vouch that it works.

cheers,

Even though I've pretty much moved off of XP x64 (or, in fact, ANY XP), I still would prefer that they'd supported XP x64.

But it _does_ include the corruption fix to the Drive Extender. That was the key to getting it to work with TiVo Desktop. And you can whine and naysay all you want, but I still think this is far and away the simplest, and best, client backup solution I've ever used. Bar none. I've give MS more than a bit of feedback on WHS since it originally released, without 64-bit support, and I've avoided recommending it to any one while they resolved the DE bug. But they've fixed both of these issues, and they deserve credit for the quality of the product that is there today. Oh, and they _did_ just save my bacon on the Ferrari.

Unfortunately, PP1 still isn't RTM, keeping from using this product with a proven data corruption defect in the WHS Drive Extender code.

Assuming that KB 946676 is resolved, and that all the other third party application will work, I will give it another try.

And if this time around, PP1 still doesn't get WHS to work and function as advertised, then I'm stuck with a broken defect that Microsoft should fully refund.

And when or how much longer should everyone need to wait for the promised June PP! RTM release?

If that's wasn't bad enough to keep everyone waiting sinc\e last year, I'm told even in PP1 the advertised feature to backup the database has been removed!

So once again, no method to backup WHS in the event of something to go wrong, which has already happen and no doubt will ahead.

Why can't Microsoft get it's act together?
