1. From the system tray, near the system clock, right click on the
Windows Live One Care Icon to open a short-cut menu.
2. From the short-cut menu click on
Open Windows Live One Care to bring up the
Windows Live One Care console.
2.a. From the
Windows Live One Care window click on
View or Change Settings under
Other Tasks to open the
Settings window .
2.b. In the
Windows Live One Care Settings window click on
Firewall followed by
Advanced Settings to open the
Windows Live One Care Advanced Settings window.
3. Click on the
Programs List tab to view the list of programs registered with the firewall and that are permitted or blocked access to the Internet.
3.a. If you have more than one instance of Messenger that represent the earlier versions of Messenger proceed to Step
4.
3.b. If you are running Messenger and do not have an instance of it in the Programs list proceed to Step
5.
3.c. If you have only one instance of Messenger proceed to Step
6.
4. Remove earlier versions of Messenger by following the steps below:
4.a. Select each entry for
Windows Live Messenger, note down the version of Messenger and if it does not match with the version you are currently running delete it.
4.b. Select the row and click on
Remove.
5. To add Windows Live Messenger through the
Windows One Care firewall, click on
Add below the
Programs list.
5.a. Browse to locate Messenger by going to
C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger.
5.b. Select
msnmsgr.exe and click on
Open.
5.c. After adding
Windows Live Messenger to the
Programs list, the firewall
Programs list will look like below.
6. To modify the access permitted to Messenger:
6.a. Select Messenger from the
Programs list.
6.b. Ensure Messenger is set
Allow access through the Internet.
