Configuring Windows Live Messenger through the Windows XP firewall
1. Launch the Windows Firewall. 
1.a. Click on START and RUN to open the RUN Window.
 
 
1.b. In the RUN window type in CONTROL FIREWALL.CPL and hit Enter to open the Windows Firewall settings window.
 
 
2. From the Windows Firewall settings windows. 
3. Click on the Exceptions tab to view the list of programs registered with the firewall and that are permitted or blocked access to the Internet.
 
 
4. To add Windows Live Messenger through the Windows XP firewall, click on Add Program below the Programs and Services list. Note: If you already have an entry in the Programs and Services list but are not sure if it is associated with the version of windows Live Messenger youa re currently running on yoour system,remove and re-add the entry.
 
 
4.a. Click on Browse and browse to C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger.
 
 
4.b. Select msnmsgr.exe and click on Open to add Messenger through the firewall.
 
 
4.c. Messenger will now appear in the Add a Program window. Click on OK to close the window.
4.d. After adding Windows Live Messenger to the Programs list, the firewall Programs list will look like below.
 
 
5. To remove an entry from the Windows Firewall Exception list: 
5.a. Select each entry for Windows Live Messenger or msnmsgr and press Delete. Note: This is to ensure that the latest version that you are running currently is registered with the Windows Firewall.
5.b. Select the row and click on Delete.
