GFI releases Freeware version of GFI WebMonitor for ISA Server

Raleigh, NC, August 13, 2009 – Uncontrolled and unmonitored internet access is not only a serious security risk to organizations but can also lead to increased productivity costs and time-wasting. Management needs to be aware of what their employees are doing online even more so if their online activity is non-work related. As part of its recently launched WE CARE initiative, GFI Software is giving organizations the ability to monitor web browsing in their organization in real-time through its FREEWARE version of GFI WebMonitor.

“Very few organizations realize how beneficial monitoring employee activity on the internet can be. They will not only gain in terms of increased productivity, as renowned time-and-motion experiments have shown, but they are also immediately aware of any browsing activity that is either inappropriate or in breach of company policy. The latest version of GFI WebMonitor 2009 for ISA Server includes real-time web browsing monitoring as Freeware because we believe that once organizations see for themselves the benefits of monitoring, they will want to start taking action,” GFI’s CEO Walter Scott explained.

“With our Freeware version, organizations will get a comprehensive picture of browsing activity within the organization – which sites are being visited, the frequency and by whom. This is the perfect tool to identify those who may be abusing company policy or spending too much time updating their social networking profile,” Mr. Scott said.

The commercial version of GFI WebMonitor allows users not only to view web browsing activity in the organization, but also to block access to sites on an individual or group level, organizations. The latest release of GFI WebMonitor also includes a new feature: Hidden Downloads Checking. This feature will block and identify background processes from downloading payloads that may be malicious in nature or use up network resources.

GFI WebMonitor allows administrators to manage what sites users can browse and block access to websites in particular categories, such as adult, online gaming, personal email, P2P, Facebook, Myspace, travel websites and more. Web monitoring is made easy with WebGrade, an extensive database that provides URL coverage for 165,000,000 domains and that is continuously updated.

GFI WebMonitor also offers web security features that allow you to monitor what files employees are downloading, to block file-types such as mp3s and to scan all files for viruses, spyware and malware using multiple anti-virus engines. GFI WebMonitor lowers the risk of social engineering by blocking access to phishing websites through the use of an auto-updatable database of phishing URLs. The web monitoring features also allow you to monitor and block Live Messenger (MSN) chat sessions and file transfers.

Eine neue Version des Best Practices Analyzer für ISA Server ist seit heute verfügbar und kann hier heruntergeladen werden.

The ISA Server Best Practices Analyzer is a diagnostic tool that automatically performs specific tests on configuration data collected on the local ISA Server computer from the ISA Server hierarchy of administration COM objects, Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) classes, the system registry, files on disk, and the Domain Name System (DNS) settings.
The resulting report details critical configuration issues, potential problems, and information about the local computer. By following the recommendations of the tool, administrators can achieve greater performance, scalability, reliability, and uptime.

The ISA Server Best Practices Analyzer is supplied with two supplemental tools:

The ISA Data Packager enables you to create a single .cab file containing ISA Server diagnostic information that can be easily sent to Microsoft Product Support Services for analysis.
BPA2Visio generates a Microsoft Office Visio® 2003 or Visio 2007 diagram of your network topology as seen from the ISA Server computer based on output from the ISA Server Best Practices Analyzer Tool output.

Windows Live Writer

Als er noch in der Beta-Phase war, hatte ich schonmal einen Blick darauf geworfen, aber - um ehrlich zu sein - mich nicht getraut, damit auch zu bloggen: Der Windows Live Writer

Nach eineinhalb Jahren und 168 Blogeinträgen fühle ich mich nach wie vor als Anfänger. Ein Bild gab's nur einmal, Tabellen nie. Aber damit könnte jetzt Schluss sein.

Gestern habe ich meinen ersten Blogeintrag mit dem Windows Live Writer geschrieben. Diesen hier jetzt natürlich auch.

Die Bedienung und die vorhandenen Funktionen haben mich überzeugt. Gerade für mich ist es ideal, da ich viel im Zug und Flieger sitze. Da kann man schön Beiträge offline vorbereiten und zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt veröffentlichen.

Es gibt sicherlich viele andere Tools auch, die mit den selben oder sogar mehr Funktionen aufwarten, aber zum Beispiel durch die Integration in das WSUS-Patchmanagement erhoffe ich mir einen Vorteil.

Wer von euch auch bloggt, sollte sich das kostenfreie Tool mal ansehen.

Collective Software sollte allen ISA Server-Administratoren ein Begriff sein, denn sie haben einige nützliche Tools rund um den ISA im Angebot:

Die ersten beiden genannten Tools haben wir ja schon auf der msisafaq.de vorgestellt.

Bei der kostenfrei zur Verfügung gestellten Software TrafficLog handelt es sich um eine Software, mit der Anfragen durch ISA Server 2006 besser als mit Bordmitteln protokolliert werden können. TrafficLog wird nicht zur täglichen Protokollierung verwendet, sondern es handelt sich primär um ein Werkzeug zur Fehlerdiagnose und Fehlerermittlung. TrafficLog implementiert sich als Webfilter in ISA Server 2006 und kann über die ISA Server-Verwaltungskonsole administriert werden.

Marc Grote hat sich dieses Tool genauer angeschaut und eine Produktvorstellung geschrieben.

Microsoft IPsec Diagnostic Tool

Die Kommunikation per IPSec ist eine sichere Sache, doch meist nicht trivial einzurichten. Um bei möglichen Problemen zu helfen hat Microsoft das IPSec Diagnostic Tool veröffentlicht.

Microsoft IPsec Diagnostic Tool checks for common network problems on the host machine and if found, suggests repair commands. Further, it collects IPsec policy information on the system and parses the IPsec logs to deduce why a failure might have happened. Beyond IPsec, it offers trace collection for VPN, NAP client, Windows Firewall, Group policy updates, Wireless and System events. The Diagnostic Report generated by the tool is conclusive and is derived from the system logs collected by the tool during its analysis phase. These logs are self sufficient to diagnose any network related issues. For further assistance, the logs would require to be shared with Network Administrators or Microsoft support.

Best Practices Analyzer

Nach der Installation und Einrichtung eines komplexen Produktes wie zum Beispiel Exchange Server oder Forefront Client Security frägt man sich oft, ob denn un auch alles richtig gemacht wurde. Wo könnte etwas optimiert werden oder wo drohen Gefahren. Um den Administrator bei der Beantwortung zu helfen, hat Microsoft vor ein paar Jahren eine neue Reihe an Hilfsanwendungen eingeführt, die beispielsweise genau bei den Fragen Antwort geben können. Die Tools aus der Serie "Best Practices Analyzer" gibt es für verschiedene Produkte. Die für uns wichtigsten möchte ich an dieser Stelle mal kurz zusammenfassen und euch den Zugang dazu vereinfachen.

ISA Server Best Practices Analyzer Tool (IsaBPA) V4 ist RTW

Seit Kurzem steht die aktuelle Version des IsaBPA zur Verfügung (RTW = release to Web).

What has changed in the new version?

ISA Data Packager (formerly known as Pack ISA Server Diagnostics) enhancements. This tool packs the ISAInfo report, IsaBPA report, ISA Server traces, MSDE logs, event log, data from several performance counters, network captures and Oakley logs into a single file and places it on the desktop, ready to be sent to support engineers in case there is a problem. This release also enables you to set your ISA trace filter according to your scenario and to collect only relevant information. The IsaBPA package also contains the ISA traces files. The ISA Data Packager (IDP) eliminates several round trips between the customer and PSS, hence reducing support cost and increasing customer satisfaction.
We added new checks to the new IsaBPA. There are now 210 rules. The focus of this release was on rules checking the logging, CSS, branch office scenario and Web Publishing Load Balancing. These new suites join the Hardware, Authentication, OWA, SSL Certificates and Site-to-site VPN with IPsec suites that were introduced in previous versions.
View more settings. The detailed View pane contains almost all ISA Server configuration settings that can be viewed in ISA Server Management, including all policy rules, network rules, networks, alerts. More than 900 configuration settings are now displayed.
More documentation. The UE team enhanced the help file. It contains approximately 100 pages. You can find which checks are being performed, how to operate the IsaBPA and of course how to fix the found issues.
Bug fixes. We fixed several bugs that were discovered in the previous version.

Wer bereits eine frühere Version des IsaBPA einsetzt, kann die neue Version einfach über die integrierte Updatefunktion laden. Ansonsten steht das Tool als Download zur Verfügung.

Der IsaBPA arbeitet mit allen ISA Server 2004 und 2006 Versionen zusammen.

Marc Grote stellt in diesem neuen Artikel die Lösung Cleartunnel von Collective Software vor.

ISA Server 200x bietet keine integrierte Unterstützung für die Überprüfung von ausgehendem HTTPS-Datenverkehr. Eingehender HTTPS-Datenverkehr kann für Webserververöffentlichungen hingegen durch die Verwendung von HTTPS-Bridging von ISA Server und installierten Drittanbieter-Produkten inspiziert werden.

Für die Überprüfung von ausgehendem HTTPS-Datenverkehr gibt es jetzt eine Zusatzsoftware der Firma Collective Software mit dem Namen ClearTunnel.
