Rollup 1 fuer Antigen 9.0 mit Service Pack 2 verfuegbar

Gut 4 Monate nachdem das Service Pack 2 für Microsoft Antigen 9.0 herausgekommen ist gibt es nun ein Rollup. Ähnlich wie schon von Exchange Server her bekannt, beheben kleinere Rollups Probleme zwischen der Verfügbarkeit von den großen Service Packs.

This rollup includes solutions to issues with the Cloudmark antispam feature released in Service Pack 2. Listed below are issues resolved with this rollup release:

Rollup 1 for Antigen for Exchange version 9.0 with SP2 contains additional diagnostic logging features for the Cloudmark engine
The StarEngine service is stopped when SpamCure is deselected
Scan engine updates fail and the Antigen logs do not provide a valid error
Mail is not scanned after you apply a new template in Antigen 9.0
The AntigenClient.exe process in Antigen for Exchange version 9.0 may crash. This generates a Dr. Watson crash that references Bucket ID 1177692600
Engine deprecation notifications continue to be sent even though the engine was disabled from all scan jobs and scanner updates.
AntigenService crashes in Antigen 9.0 after you save changes that you made in the Antigen General Options panel
Antigen 9.0 may detect that valid Office 2003 Word documents contain CorruptedCompressedFile viruses
Antigen 9.0 may generate the following error in the ProgramLog.txt: "ERROR: AntigenInternet process returned 80010105 while processing Message"
A scan engine update fails and generates a warning in the ProgramLog.txt file

Service Packs fuer Forefront Server Security und Antigen

Letzte Woche wurden einige Service Packs für Forefront Server Security-Produkte und dem Vorgänger Antigen veröffentlicht:

Forefront Security for Exchange Server SP2
Forefront Security for SharePoint SP3
Antigen for Exchange with Antigen Spam Manager 9.0 SP2
Antigen for SMTP Gateways with Antigen Spam Manager 9.0 SP2

Manuel hat die wichtigsten Änderungen zusammengefasst:

Neben dem Rollup der letzten Software Fixes ist die wohl wichtigste Neuerung, dass von bisher acht Antimalware-Engines drei "gestrichen" und zum 1.12.2009 abgekündigt wurden: CA, Sophos und AhnLab. Übrig geblieben sind: Microsoft, Kaspersky, Norman, Authentium, VirusBuster.

Im Gegenzug hält bei Antigen 9 schon ein kleiner Vorgeschmack auf die nächste Generation von Forefront Server Security Einzug: Im Bereich AntiSpam wurde MailFilters ebenfalls zum 1.12.2009 abgekündigt und dafür die Cloudmark-Engine mit aufgenommen.

Wie bislang bei den Forefront Server Security-Produkten (leider) üblich, gibt es das Service Pack nicht einzeln als Download sondern nur als Vollversion. Ihr könnt entweder die Evalversion inclusive dem jeweils aktuellen Service Pack verwenden und eure Lizenzdetails eingeben oder die komplette Version über das Volumenlizenzportal herunterladen.

Neues rund um Hyper-V (und auch Forefront)

In den letzten Tagen gab es wieder einige Ankündigungen und Informationen rund um Virtualisierung mit Hyper-V - auch im Zusammenhang mit Forefront-Produkten.

Das Microsoft Forefront Server Security-Team hat die Microsoft support policies and recommendations for Forefront Security products in a Hyper-V virtual environment herausgegeben. Demnach ist nun Forefront Server Security für Exchange SP1 und Forefront Server Security für SharePoint SP1 in einer virtuellen Umgebung unter Hyper-V unterstützt. Der Blogeintrag beschreibt die Rahmenbedingungen dazu.

Unter dem Kampagnennamen getVIRTUALnow gibt es viele Informationen, Pressewebcasts und Pressemitteilungen rund um die Virtualisierungs-Strategie von Microsoft. Dabei wurde auch the upcoming availability of System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008, Microsoft Application Virtualization 4.5 and the new Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 as a no-cost download angekündigt. Demnach wird es also demnächst einen Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 geben - und das kostenfrei. Mal gespannt, was genau sich dahinter verbirgt.

Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008, a new hypervisor-based server virtualization product, will be released within 30 days and be available at no cost via the Web. Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 provides a simplified, reliable, and optimized virtualization solution that allows customers to consolidate Windows or Linux workloads onto a single physical server. Hyper-V Server 2008 allows customers to leverage their existing patching, provisioning, management and support tools, processes and skills.
System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008 will be released within 30 days. System Center Virtual Machine Manager enables customers to configure and deploy new virtual machines and centrally manage their virtualized infrastructure, whether running on Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V, Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 R2, Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 or VMware Virtual Infrastructure 3. System Center Virtual Machine Manager is part of the System Center suite of products, which provides centralized, enterprise-class management of physical and virtual resources across desktops and datacenters.
Microsoft demonstrated for the first time a live migration feature of Windows Server 2008 R2. Live migration utilizes the integrated hypervisor technology and high-availability features of the server operating system so that customers can move running applications between servers to accommodate changing, dynamic computing needs across a datacenter. In addition to other features, the next version of Microsoft Hyper-V Server will have live migration capabilities.
Last week Microsoft released Microsoft Application Virtualization 4.5, which gives desktop users a boost in fully harnessing the power of Windows Vista by streaming resource-heavy applications to the desktop. This helps eliminate potential software conflicts driving desktop stability and performance, while simultaneously enabling IT managers to centrally control key applications and their use. Application Virtualization 4.5 will be included as part of Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack 2008 R2, which is due for general availability in the coming weeks.

Buchvorstellung: Sichere Messaging-Infrastruktur mit Microsoft Forefront

OK, ich gebe zu, Olli kann das besser ;-) Und irgendwie hat mich sein Abschiedsspiel gestern angesteckt....

Zurück zum Thema:

Was lange währt, wird (hoffentlich) gut. Wie schonmal angekündigt, haben Christian Gröbner, Manuel Stix und ich ein Buch rund um Forefront geschrieben. Es hat leider etwas länger gedauert, bis wir es in den Händen halten können, aber nun ist es soweit. Das Buch ist fertig und ich habe bereits ein Exemplar in meinen Händen!

In diesem Buch gehen wir - wie der Titel schon sagt - auf E-Mail-Sicherheit mit Microsoft Forefront ein. Neben einer grundsätzlichen Einführung in die Problematik bei E-Mails bekommt ihr einen Überblick über die Forefront-Familie und lernt, wie man die Antispam-Funktionen von Exchange Server 2007 nutzt. Danach geht es in die Planung, Installation und den Betrieb von Forefront Security für Exchange und auch für SharePoint. Damit die (noch) vielen Exchange 2003-Nutzer nicht ganz im Regen stehen bleiben, gehen wir auch auf Antigen (die Vorgängerversion von Forefront Security für Exchange) ein. Ein kurzer Ausflug zu den Exchange Hosted Services beendet das Buch.

Wir hoffen natürlich, dass wir auf den 470 Seiten alles Wissenswerte untergebracht haben und dass euch das Buch hilfreich ist.

Ab sofort sollte es über den Buchhandel bestellbar sein.

Forefront Security for SharePoint Server Service Pack 2 verfuegbar

Seit heute steht für Forefront Security für SharePoint Server das Service Pack 2 zur Verfügung.

Hier gibt es weitere Infos und eine Downloadmöglichkeit.

Das SP2 ist nicht alleinstehend erhältlich sondern nur integriert. Man kann allerdings problemlos die komplette Version installieren, das Setup erkennt, dass bereits eine frühere Version installiert ist und übernimmt die Einstellungen.

Informationen zur naechsten Generation von Forefront Security fuer Exchange Server

Das Forefront-Team hat in seinem Blogeintrag von gestern erste Informationen zur nächsten Version von Forefront Security für Exchange Server veröffentlicht.

Neu ist unter anderem die Integration in die ebenfalls neue Konsole mit dem Codename "Stirling" und Powershell Unterstützung. Alles weitere findet ihr erstmal in dem Blogeintrag. Natürlich werde ich hier künftig meine Erfahrungen etc. rund um die Beta schreiben, sofern die Infos öffentlich sind.

Forefront Server Security und Kaspersky Engine

Wer Forefront Server Security (betrifft Forefront Security für Exchange Server als auch Forefront Security für SharePoint Server) einsetzt und die Kaspersky Antivirus Technology-Engine nutzt, wird (hoffentlich) festgestellt haben, dass diese seit dem 31. Dezember 2007 nicht mehr aktualisiert wird.

Der Grund dafür ist eine Änderung der Engine bei Kaspersky, mit der Forefront so nicht mehr klar kommt:

This problem occurs because Forefront Security does not handle the updated Kaspersky scan engine correctly.
Kaspersky has released an updated scan engine. This scan engine includes a .Lock file. Forefront Security cannot handle the management of any updates if any file name in the update begins with a period. In this scenario, when Forefront Security tries to delete older updates when newer updates are available, Forefront Security incorrectly determines that any file name that begins with a period is a directory. Therefore, Forefront Security does not delete the file. This behavior causes Forefront Security to leave older engine update folders present when these folders should be deleted. Therefore, Forefront Security does not update the Kaspersky scan engine.

Abhilfe schafft ein Hotfix, der in KB947187 beschrieben ist und angefordert werden muss. Nach dem Einspielen kann die Kaspersky-Engine wieder aktualisiert werden.

Beim Anfordern solltet ihr gleich die Sprachversion berücksichtigen. Es gilt die Sprache des Betriebssystems und nicht die von Forefront ;-) Ebenso ist es wichtig, anzugeben, welche Forefront-Version (mit oder ohne SP1) im Einsatz ist.

Wer noch Microsoft Antigen einsetzt: KB947260 gilt in diesem Fall.

Microsoft Antigen 9 Service Pack 1

Für Antigen 9 (also der Spam-/Virenscanner von Microsoft für Exchange Server 2000 und 2003) ist nun auch ein Service Pack verfügbar.

Antigen 9 SP1 includes the following features:

Enhanced cluster installations – There were some issues with installing Antigen on a cluster. The fixes to address those issues (previously only available in the 9.0.1055.64) are now available in a complete release package.
Wide Character Support (Globalization) – Antigen 9 SP1 has support for Unicode characters. This means that things such as filter lists names or tag text can be named using local language characters. The product is still an English product and is limited to English-only install directories, but Unicode is accepted pretty much everywhere else.
Rollup of existing bug fixes – Every hot fix that has been released to customers has been rolled into this release.
Software updates via Microsoft Update – Antigen 9 SP1 can now be have product software updates done automatically by Microsoft Update.
Office 12 File support – We have added some support for the Office 12 file formats. We can now identify Office 12 files as such instead of treating them as corrupted compressed.
Deprecated the CA Iris engine – CA recently has dropped support for the CA Iris engine by incorporating the functionality that CA Iris provided into the CA Vet engine. Consolidating the engines means there’s one less engine to update and you still get the same functionality!
Improved license renewal – Antigen 9 SP1 now has the ability to accept your Volume Licensing user agreement number and expiration date. This allows you to renew Antigen without getting a license file. Simply enter the new agreement number and expiration date and you are ready to go.
Changed Default SpamCure update frequency to 15 minutes – A common problem with spam detection is not updating spam signatures often enough. The default update frequency has been changed form once a day to every 15 minutes, thus improving spam detection out of the box.
The engine update scheduler only creates one scheduled job for each engine – In previous versions of Antigen the AT scheduler was used to manage engine update schedules. This resulted in many, many jobs being listed in the AT scheduler. In Antigen 9 SP1 we utilize SCHTASKS which allows for recurring tasks and one scheduled task per engine update!

Zu beziehen ist das Service Pack entweder über das Microsoft Volume Licensing-Portal oder über die Sybari-Website - je nach dem, auf welchem Weg ihr die Lizenz gekauft habt. Als ganz normaler Download ist das Service Pack nicht erhältlich :-(
