! WSUS will become optional role for Windows Server 2008 Server Manager

"In addition to roles and features that are included with Windows Server 2008 by default, Server Manager enables integration of additional roles and features that are available on the Microsoft Download Center and Windows Update Web sites as optional updates to Windows Server 2008.

One role that will be available as an update is Windows Server Update Services 3.0 Service Pack 1 (WSUS 3.0 SP1). This update to Server Manager enables full integration of WSUS 3.0 SP1 into Server Manager, allowing installation, configuration, and management of WSUS 3.0 SP1 using the Server Manager console and wizards.

Beta testers can download a server manager update for Windows Server 2008 RC0 to enable this new optional role, for now that is just WSUS. But since MS removed Windows Sharepoint Services as default available rol on WS08 I think this will become an optional role for Server manager too."

"A few months ago, Microsoft was hedging as to whether it would deliver the final “Orcas” Visual Studio 2008 code in 2007 or 2008. But as of November 5, it’s official: VS 2008 is going to be released to manufacturing later in November 2007.

The official “launch” of Visual Studio 2008 remains set for February 27, 2008. But the VS 2008 and .Net Framework 3.5 bits will be signed, sealed and delivered sooner than that. ..."

If you have a Windows Live ID that you use for work and one that you use at home, you can link them. When you link more than one Windows Live ID, you can sign in to a Windows Live site or service with one account and still have access to information related to the linked accounts.

One of the nice additions to the account.live.com is the ability to link multiple Live IDs together so that you can easily log out of one account and in to another.

"Longtime rivals and occasional collaborators Sun Microsystems and Microsoft announced on Wednesday that Sun will ship 64-bit servers with Microsoft's Windows Server 2003 operating system. Within 90 days, Sun will offer Windows Server 2003 on its entire line of Sun x64 systems. Sun already certifies that Windows Servers will run on its hardware, but this agreement will allow Sun to preinstall the software and offer support to customers.

The two companies also committed to expanding their technical collaboration -- first announced in 2004 but one which had not lived up to the initial hoopla -- into virtualisation. In particular, the two companies said they will ensure that Solaris will work well as a "guest" with Microsoft's virtualisation technology and Windows will work well in a virtualised Solaris environment."

• Diagnostic logging. Over 200 new diagnostic logging events are provided.

"Only days after the initial announcement, the unified installer for all desktop Windows Live products has already released to the web, although not exactly in the expected way.

The "suite" replaces older Windows Live product installers with a single one for every of them, where we expected it to be a standalone package alongside the product installers. You simply download the 1.7MB file, then choose what products you want to download and install. The installer is pretty efficient, as it downloads other products while one of them install instead of waiting for it to finish.

The package can install Photo Gallery, Messenger, Writer, Mail, Family Safety and Toolbar.

Though the changes added to them are unknown, new builds for Mail, Writer, Photo Gallery and Messenger 8.5 Beta have also been released. "
