yeah this is a steep learning curve. I've passed the cert test for SBS 2008, been an SBSr for 5+ years, and this thing is kickn me bollox. So much to it and I'm finding disagreement between the current v2 migration document and the reality of migrating itself. 21 days is too short.

PERC 6 series has the same problems. No audible alarm. I've continued to try to raise the issue with Dell but with little response, other than the technicians agreeing that the audible alarm should at least be an option.

The 2008 book focuses solely on SBS 2008. You can get much of the Mac stuff for SBS 2003 from my blog posts, or you can pick up a copy of the SBS 2003 book. I've been trying to get Sams to bundle the two books together at a discounted price, but nothing like that has materialized yet.

Does the new book also include 2003 information, or has it been re-focused on 2008 only?

I have several clients with SBS2003 and of course some will be moving to SBS2008 soon. We need the SBS 2003 and Mac information, but don't know if both book s are needed, or just the 2008 edition.

It is absolutely dumbfounding that another generation of RAID controllers could slip by without any audible alarm!

putting SQL on the second server is an option, but not required. Depending on the expected load on the SQL application, compared to the "beefiness" of the SBS server, it could go on either box. There is nothing in the licensing that requires SQL to be installed on the second server.

I think Dell should place the alarm on the controller. Those admins who do not want the alarm can disable it like you could before yanking it from the card.
