pdf icon shows up in search results but not document library

I have installed the pdf IFILTER, updated the DOCTYPE.xml, and we get an icon for pdfs when searching but when simply going to the document library I still get an html icon and when I click on its properties it gives the following location and file name:

http://******************/archive/Portal/resources/DocTypeIcons/unknown16.gif .

is there something that has to be done to the site settings/Search Settings and Indexed Content? or something else? I would like to get this straight before installing any other ifilters so that they are all done correctly, (I need to put one in for jpg, corel wordperfect, etc...whatever else I can find). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

almost forgot, we are using sps2003 and a BCDL (as far as I know). Any more information that one needs to help me can be provided upon request....

Did you do an iisrestart after making the DOCTYPE.xml change ?

Yeah we did.

I am wondering if its because we put the wrong thing in for the DOCTYPE change, I have noticed a few different things suggested on this board, What i really need is one definitive and detailed answer about this exact problem (I noticed a lot of people had problems getting pdfs icon showing up in search rather than the problem ihave of getting them to show up in doc library, and as I said, I am pretty sure we are using a BCDL as we upgraded the software from 2001 to 2003. I am wondering if I am making a mistake in the content and indexing area afterward, it always seems to be something very small that does me in...is the process generally the same for all IFIlters?

Here's *my* definitive answer :)

Assuming your installation is on the C: drive, open in notepad:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\TEMPLATE\XML\DOCICON.XML

Right above the line for the entry Key="PNG", add this line: <Mapping Key="pdf" Value="pdf16.gif"/>

Make sure you have the pdf16.gif icon file located in:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\60\TEMPLATE\IMAGES

Then do an iisreset from the command propmpt on the server.

Works in SP2003 and MOSS 2007 on all doc libs

greetings,

I got the assignment to change my domain name for MOSS 2007, but i can's seem to find the information. Currently i'm using http://ictserver but i need to change it to http://sharepoint.indicia.nl

Is there a way to do this while keeping all content?

To change the domain name you need to go into the Central administration site, and go into

Operations > Alternate Access Mappings (under the Global Configuration heading)

From there it should be fairly self explanatory.

SharePoint 2003 Upload Limitation

1. Open SharePoint Central Admin (Start > Programs > SharePoint Portal Server)

2. Under the heading 'Portal Site and Virtual Server Configuration' select 'Configure virtual server settings from the Virtual Server List page'

3. Select the Virtual Server you installed your Portal on (E.g. Default Web Site)

4. Under the heading 'Virtual Server Management' on the 'Virtual Server Settings' page, select 'Virtual server general settings'

5. In the section labeled 'Maximum Upload Size' you can change the value from 50Mb to whatever you like.
