Hi,
I'm installing a new SBS 2003 Premium that came with a external USB Dell RD1000 storage for backups. But when i try to configure the backup too in SBS it gives and error saying that the RD1000 is not a valid drive.Does anyone had this problem before and if so is there any solution for this?
I've checked older posts but it didn't helped much, tricks with usb pen drives is not a great solution.

I had a similar problem with an Iomega Rev drive. The issue seemed to be (in that case) that SBS didnt pick up its drive letter as a valid location to save data. I think it was driver related.
There is a workaround however!
Run the backup configuration on the SBS but point the save location to a local folder on your server (c:\backup) for example. Once complete, open regedit and navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SmallBusinessServer\Backup
Change the Backup Location Path key to reflect the drive letter of your drive unit. Close regedit and open Server Management. Click backup and you should now see the correct path listed.
Its not ideal and you will need to do it every time you change the backup details but it works.
I hope it also works for your Dell drive!

That did the trick and it's a clean way to do it. I don't expect to redo the backup settings very often. It worked perfeclty.
