I have a MOSS 2007 site set up with document libraries. As of 1/9/07 I was able to open and save Excel and Word documents with no problems. However, when I try to open these documents now, IE7 crashes. I get the dreaded "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." message.
I am able to open .PDF files just fine. It appears to be just Office docs that cause the problem. (The docs are actually saved in Office 2003 format.) I can access the Office docs just fine from a machine that has Office 2003 installed.
The only changes to the computer having the problem that I am aware of were the Security Updates applied the evening of 1/9/07. I have attempted to uninstall these, but IE7 still crashes.
Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas on where to go next?

I've seen some IE7 crashes as well. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE7?

I am having the same exact error as you. I dont even have to explain because its that similar. I noticed that if you diable the Sharepoint OpenDocuments class Addon in IE, you will be able to open documents once again, but you will not be able to edit in word, or create new in word because these features need this addon.
Can any elaborate from here????

I can duplicate the behavior you described with disabling the Sharepoint OpenDocuments Class Addon. The file (OWSSUPP.DLL) in the OFFICE12 folder is dated 10/26/06. I wonder if that file was changed in the last Security Update. (It would seem highly likely to me that this file is the problem since disabling it keeps IE7 from crashing.)
The computer that I tried with Office 2003 (which works fine) is also running IE7, but I have not applied the latest updates.
I have not tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE7.

I am actually using office 2003 and it is not working. I even reinstalled office and i was still having the problem. But i am assuming that this is a office issue since it only has to do with office products popping up. I hope someone can help on this issue because i do a lot of sharepoint work and this is holding me back some.

Hi
I am looking for some support regarding the "SharePoint Solution Generator" program that is bundled as part of "Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Tools: Visual Studio 2005 Extensions" CTP.
We have tried using the tool and have run into a few issues (listed below).
We have opened a MS support case, but they are not familiar with this tool.
Does anyone have experience with this tool using slightly customized sites?
Thanks
Chris
Problems we've found with the generated site definitions:
1. master page inheritance is not working - the site is based on default.master
2. custom web parts are dropped from web pages
3. incompatibility with any Publishing site. Error message along the lines of "The list is not supported"

I have it working for everything except i cannot open a document still in sharepoint 3.0. I can open a document or create a new one in 2.0 and i can create a new one in 3.0. I still dont know why 3.0 crashes when i open a document. What i did was i deleted the OWSSUPP.DLL file from the office11 directory. I then did a repair on microsoft office in add remove programs. I now have this right here. So i am somewhat close now. Please keep me updated with any more news.

The problem happens when you have, or had, two versions of office installed. You have to go into your program files directory and delete the version of owssupp.dll you're not using (for example if you upgraded to office 2007 and then downgraded back to office 2003 you delete owssupp.dll in the office12 directory). IE 7's manage addons you can see two versions of the owssupp dll registered so IE gets confused and you have to forcefully remove the version you're not using anymore.
