Does anybody know what the differences are in the mechanisms for setting alerts on WSS versus SPS?

I can get alerts working brilliantly on WSS sites but not on Portal Server.

Please, please help!  Driving me slightly mad!

Dave

Apparently, SPS alerts work through the Profile database, and MySites.  So your users have to have a MySite created, and their email address has to show in the profile that they see from the MySite.  Usually, you import their profiles from the AD, and then add additional information.  Then, of course, you have to have alerts enabled in the admin pages, and in the doclibs, and have the SharePoint SMTP pointing to the system SMTP, and the system SMTP has to allow the SharePoint box to relay through it.  Little nitpicking things like that.  Also, there is a SharePoint timer service that has to be running.
