Document Signing/Approval

I need a mechanism where documents a document in a document library can be reviewed and approved by a number of folks. Not the same folks for different documents in the same library: E.g. say the document library is Process documents for a software development effort: The vision document needs approved by one set of managers, the design document another.

How are folks doing this?

This is not approval for Publication, its approval for moving ahead with project.

Thanks in advance,

Derek . . .

I guess you can solve this issue with an implementation of a simple workflow. There is a little nice workflow tool (Workflow Lite) for sharepoint doc libaries at gotdotnet. Visit

As far as I remember workflow lite doesn't allow different workflow for different documents in one library. There's a commercial product from www.nintex.com that does support this.

The workflows will be about approval, moving a document from one state to another, they can't enforce an order or dependancies, I would call this release control.

There is a product called K-Map which looks a little like it may help with this kind of thing, but I've not had experience of using it.
